Topping Out Ceremony Held at Hollywood & Vine

Another milestone was reached last week at the $600-million Hollywood & Vine Project, when a topping out ceremony was held.  On hand for the ceremony were many of Hollywood’s public officials and leading citizens.  Held in the future motor court for the W Hotel, guests were impressed with the immensity of the project.  “This is the dress rehearsal for Hollywood’s latest primetime hit,” said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.  L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti noted that “We look up and see the future of the community.  This will be a successful bet for Hollywood.”  County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky added  “It’s what Hollywood has been seeking for 4 decades and now it’s here!”  The project is expected to be completed in fall 2009.

Chamber Provides Holiday Gift to the Community

Enjoy holiday entertainment, hot chocolate and a free screening of a classic holiday movie thanks to sponsorship by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Scrooge, the holiday 1970s classic film starring Albert Finney, will be screened on Saturday, December 20th, at 2 p.m. at the historic Egyptian Theatre. Come early at 1 p.m. for entertainment and hot chocolate. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. This is the second year that the Chamber has collaborated with American Cinematheque to present a “gift” to the community.  Last year, the movie A Christmas Story, was screened.  “The Chamber is pleased to be able to do something special for the community during the holidays,” said Chamber President Leron Gubler.  “We invite our members to attend and enjoy the screening.”

Bernstein High School Partners with the Hollywood Business Community

The newly opened Helen Bernstein High School is seeking members of the business community to speak to the over 350 students in its "Business, Technology & Labor Relations" (B.T.L.R.) Small Learning Community.  The school is inviting speakers from the community involved in the business, technology, and labor relations fields to talk about their personal experiences (i.e. starting a new business, organizing labor strikes, trends in technology) as a way to give students a real-life presentation of the community and their world.  Next semester, the school will also partner with L.A. Trade Tech College's Labor Center to provide two labor relations courses taught by LATTC instructors. Additionally, the school strongly encourages the participation and assistance of local and community organizations in volunteering at Bernstein High School as mentors or tutors and offering any corporate donations in the form of monetary funds and/or services and products (gift cards, clothing, music/electronic devices, etc.) which will be used as incentives for stellar academic achievement, punctuality, perfect attendance, model behavior and so forth. If you are interested in partnering with Bernstein’s B.T.L.R. students, please contact:

Support
Hollywood’s
Hail-A-Taxi
Pilot Program

A six-month test program is underway in central Hollywood and Downtown to see if there is enough demand by passengers to make a permanent policy allowing people to hail taxis. The Chamber, a strong proponent of the new policy, encourages its members to help make the test a success by taking advantage of the opportunity to hail taxis.
