Chamber Hosts Premiere of
Anti-Piracy Movie
In
a step to keep the focus on the growing problem
of piracy, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
will partner with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
on the Los Angeles premiere of Illicit: The
Dark Trade. The screening will be held on
Wednesday, October 1st at 4 p.m. at
Sunset-Gower Studios in the Stanley Kramer
Theatre. Admission is free. However,
reservations are mandatory because of limited
space. Reservations can be made by calling the
Chamber (323)469-8311 or going to the Chamber
website:
www.hollywoodchamber.net. The movie was
produced by the U.S. Chamber’s Global
Intellectual Property Center (GIPC) in
partnership with National Geographic. The film
exposes the criminal networks behind the
multibillion-dollar global trade of illicit
goods and reveals how these criminal networks
cost untold numbers of jobs, produce dangerous
products and breed violence and corruption.
Final Meeting Set on
Westside Subway Route
METRO will hold
its final community meeting on the Alternatives
Analysis phase of the Westside Extension Transit
Corridor Study this Thursday. The meeting will
be held at Plummer Park in West Hollywood, 7377
Santa Monica Blvd. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Free
parking is available. The meeting will be an
opportunity for you to voice your opinion on the
best route for the subway to extend to the
Westside. Currently two principal routes are
under consideration – going west on Wilshire
Blvd. from the Western Avenue station or going
southwest from the Hollywood & Highland station
and then following a Wilshire Blvd. route. The
Hollywood Chamber is on record in support of the
subway extension to the Westside. Rather than
support one route over the other, the Chamber
believes that both routes would help to complete
a viable subway system and that both connections
should be made prior to extending the subway
beyond the 405 Freeway.
Hollywood
Entertainment District Renewed for 10 Years
The Los Angeles
City Council gave final approval today to a
10-year extension on the life of the Hollywood
Entertainment District (HED). A tabulation of
votes from property owners revealed that an
impressive 93 percent of property owners voted
to renew the district as well as to raise their
assessments. The annual assessment will now
raise $3.4-million versus the previous
$2.5-million. There are 225 property owners in
the district. The HED was Hollywood’s first
business improvement district and was formed in
1996 through a campaign by the Hollywood Chamber
of Commerce, led by former chair Julie Kleinick.
The Chamber congratulates the HED on their
successful renewal effort!!
