Chamber Testifies at METRO Hearing on Long Range Transportation Plan

The METRO Board of Directors held a hearing last week on its draft Long Range Transportation Plan for Los Angeles County (LRTP).  The LRTP includes essential programs for Los Angeles such as light rail transit projects, road interchange improvements, road enhancements, grade separations and expansion of the Metro Rail system. Additionally, the LRTP could reduce 14 tons of pollution and 725 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually by improving bus passenger time and increase transit capacity by 25 percent.

The Chamber’s vice president of public policy, Nicole Shahenian spoke before the METRO Board in support of funding for the Westside subway extension and the completion of the Expo Line to Santa Monica.  At the June 26th hearing, the Board also considered a proposal to place an initiative on the November ballot that would ask voters to approve a ½ cent sales tax increase that would be used as a funding stream for projects on the Long Range Transportation Plan. The Board voted to defer adoption of both the Transportation Plan and the Sales Tax initiative until a later date.  METRO will be holding a series of meetings soliciting community feedback on the sales tax initiative in the month of July.

Tourism Committee Tours Warner Brothers Studio and Discusses Business

The Tourism Committee held its first "Summer Field Trip" in lieu of a regular meeting last month, and it proved to be a great success!  Danny Kahn at Warner Brothers treated our 55 guests to a private, abbreviated tour of studios and facilities, followed by a delightful reception in their Warner Bros. Commissary Fine Dining Room.  "I forgot how much fun the group is!", said Karen Winchell of CBS.  "I had a great conversation with a member who wants to create an event and work on cross promotion with our mailing lists.  I'm excited!", Kristin Kendall from Out of the Box Events. "It really was alot of fun and I look forward to holding some ASCAP events on the lot," said Cindy Braun, ASCAP, and Co-Chair of the Tourism Committee. The Tourism Committee meets every 4th Wednesday at the Chamber at 4pm.  Next meeting is scheduled for July 23.  We all encourage members who have tourism-related business to attend, make connections, and create co-op marketing partnerships!  For more information, please contact Kaylee@hollywoodchamber.net
