Hollywood Crime Update
by
Cpt. Clayton Farrell

Hollywood Part I Crime (Homicide, Rape, Aggravated Assaults, Burglary, Grand Theft Auto, Burglary From Motor Vehicle and Personal Theft) is down 16.6 percent Year-to-Date (YTD); the overall City-wide reduction is 6.5 percent. Hollywood Part I crime reduction continues to lead the City.  Hollywood violent crime is down 17.7 percent compared to the City-wide reduction of 6.1 percent and Hollywood property crime is down 16.3 percent compared to the City-wide reduction of 6.1 percent.

Hollywood gang crime is down 32 percent compared to the City-wide reduction of 14 percent.

To provide a longer term example of our crime reduction successes, as of approximately June 21, 2004, 894 violent crimes had occurred YTD in Hollywood. Now, for the same period in 2008, we experienced a reduction to 648 violent crimes.  Regarding property crimes, on approximately June 21, 2004, 3398 property crimes had occurred, compared to our current number of 2381 property crimes. We are proud of the accomplishments and efforts of our Hollywood officers and detectives.

Traffic collisions are down three percent in Hollywood compared to 2007; we have had one fatal collision compared to six in 2007.

Last week, your Hollywood officers handled 1028 radio calls, including 75 that occurred on Saturday between 1800 hours to 2400 hours. It's getting busy!

Your Hollywood officers were honored last Saturday by the Hollywood Community Housing Corporation. We are very grateful for the recognition.

Our potential challenges for the summer- an increase in property crime because of the significant number of persons visiting Hollywood; please remind your friends and associates to lock their vehicles and residences.  Simple precautions frequently deter crime.

We remain very concerned about fire dangers in the hills and are asking neighbors to aggressively clear away brush and be mindful of Red Flag days.
