Chamber Lobbies in Sacramento for Hollywood

A delegation of representatives from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce visited legislators in Sacramento late last month to advocate issues of importance to Hollywood.   Chamber representatives met with Assemblymembers Kevin Deleon (D-45), Mervyn Dymally (D-52), Mike Feuer (D-42), Betty Karnette (D-54), Paul Krekorian (D-43), and with staff from the office of Governor Schwarzenegger.

“The Chamber’s Sacramento trip was a great success”, remarked Chamber Chair and leader of the Sacramento delegation Mark Panatier of the A.F. Gilmore Company, “The annual trip provides an important opportunity for our Board to have direct interaction with our lawmakers and to openly discuss issues of concern not only to Hollywood businesses but to the entire Hollywood community.”

Among the issues discussed by the Chamber delegation, during the trip included: the proposed Hollywood Freeway Central Park, health care funding and reforms, runaway production and anti-piracy legislation, tourism, and State Enterprise Zones.

The Hollywood Chamber’s Legislative Action Committee plans annual advocacy visits to Washington D.C and Sacramento each Spring.  If you are interested in becoming active in the Chamber’s advocacy initiatives and would like to become a member of the Legislative Action Committee, please contact the Chamber’s Vice President of Public Policy, Nicole Shahenian at 323-468-1373 or via e-mail at Nicole@hollywoodchamber.net.

“Are We There Yet?” Universal Studios Introduces The Simpsons Ride

LA Inc and Universal Studios hosted a wonderful event recently showcasing Universal’s newest attraction, The Simpsons Ride. On the ride, you go with Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie as you enter through the carnival-like midway and visit Krustyland, the low-budget theme park created by famed TV personality and shameless product huckster Krusty the Clown! You embark on a wild, over-the-top ride through the park… flying, floating, and more or less crashing your way through Krustyland’s kiddie attractions, stunt shows, and thrill rides. It was a great thrill to experience it first-hand with other LA Inc members.

On that note, the Hollywood Chamber would like to share an update from Universal Studios regarding the recent fire: “Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk have taken a "the show must go on" stance and are open for business as usual after a much-publicized weekend fire that damaged the King Kong backlot attraction and one area of film sets that were frequently visited by the Studio Tour. All Rides, shows and attractions are open and operating normally, including the new and much-acclaimed "The Simpsons Ride," which opened to spectacular reviews just weeks ago and joined "Revenge of the Mummy--The Ride" and "Jurassic Park--The Ride” as stand-out Universal Studios Hollywood Thrill-ride experiences.  Neither Universal CityWalk, the popular entertainment, dining and retail complex nor the Universal CityWalk Cinemas were impacted and have also opened for business as usual. The Gibson Amphitheatre, the Sheraton Universal and Universal Hilton Hotels are fully operational and were not affected by the incident. Universal Studios Hollywood's parent company, NBC Universal, has announced its determination to rebuild and replace the film sets that were lost in the fire. Specifically, the New York Streets sets will be reconstructed and a new, compelling guest experience will ultimately replace the 22-year-old King Kong attraction.”

The Hollywood Chamber and its members wish the very best to our friends at Universal Studios.
