Your Seat for Economic Development Summit on
June 19

Mark your
calendar and save the date for the 2008
Hollywood Economic Development Summit. This
year’s popular event will take place on
Thursday, June 19th, from 8 a.m. to
10:30 a.m. Because of sell-outs the past two
years, the summit will be moved to the
CineramaDome this year to ensure that everyone
who wants to attend can be accommodated. The
theme for 2008 is “Taking Hollywood to the Next
Level” and will feature the very latest
information on what is happening in Hollywood.
A special focus of the conference will be
in-fill development, using Selma Avenue as a
case study on what is happening in the film
capital. A Hollywood Visionary Award
will be presented to James M. Nederlander, Sr.,
who is the owner of the Pantages Theatre and
adjoining properties.

Prop 98 and 99 - Chamber Board Recommends
Position on State Ballot Measures
The Board of
the Hollywood Chamber voted to
recommend to its members that they oppose
Proposition 98 and support Proposition 99 on the
June 3rd California election. Both
measures deal with the emotional subject of
eminent domain. Proposition 98 is the more
severe of the two measures and also includes the
unrelated issue of phasing out rent control in
California. Proposition 99 covers the issue
which has been of greatest concern to the public
– prohibiting government from using eminent
domain to take a single-family home (including
condos) for the purpose of transferring it to
another private party. The Chamber believes that
there are cases where eminent domain is
justified for the purpose of revitalizing
communities and believes a blanket restriction
against all types of eminent domain would be
ill-advised. You can get more informed more
about Prop 98/99 and hear both sides present
their issues and debate the issues of Prop 98
and 99. Hosted by Hollywood United Neighborhood
Council, the meeting will be held at LeConte
Middle School Auditorium located at 1316 N.
Bronson, South of Sunset @ Fountain Avenue
on May
31st at 11am.
