The Hollywood Chamber
Community Foundation honored four distinguished
women last week and set a new record by raising
more than $100,000. Amy Wakeland, Carolyn Dye,
Hilary Royce and Laura Dodson were honored at
the 15th Annual Women of Distinction at The
Globe at Universal. Michael Taylor was honored
with the Golden Award and former Miss America
and actress Lee Meriwether was honored with the
prestigious Mary Pickford Award. The Foundation
would like to thank co-chairs Laurie Goldman and
Maureen Shultz and the Women of Distinction
committee who helped organize the Foundation’s
biggest annual event. Also, the Foundation would
like to thank all the sponsors of this event.
The Women of Distinction luncheon is the largest
annual fundraiser for the Hollywood Chamber of
Commerce Community Foundation, which has given
out more than $450,000 of grant money to
Hollywood charities since its inception in 1998.
Cinematographers Break
Ground on Addition

The American
Society of Cinematographers (ASC) broke ground
last week on an addition to their historic
clubhouse at the corner of Orange and Franklin
Avenues. The oldest continuously-operating
motion picture society in the world, the ASC was
chartered in 1919 and has been in Hollywood for
their entire existence. In 1929, they purchased
a historic home that has been their headquarters
for the past 79 years. They are building an
addition to the rear of the building while
preserving the character of the original. A
separate three-story building will be erected at
the rear of the property to house their offices
and publications division. The Chamber
congratulates the ASC on this long-planned
project!

Vermont Triangle
Improvement Project Breaks Ground

Hollywood Chamber and
community leaders were on hand last week at the breaking
ground ceremony for the Vermont Triangle improvement
project at the intersection of
Hollywood Blvd. and Vermont Ave. Managed by
CRA/LA, this $800,000 streetscape project
features landscaping, seating for pedestrians,
light fixtures, bus benches, trash receptacles
and directional signage. The Barnsdall Park
Transit Oriented District Streetscape, also
known as "Vermont Triangle" is a highly
problematic and pedestrian-unfriendly
intersection. Adding trees, benches and
lighting, will create a place where people can
sit and have a green, shady path along Vermont.
This is one of the many improvement projects in
the East Hollywood neighborhood. Also, the
recently created East Hollywood BID is working
with HBT/LA on further beautification plans in
the area.

Sponsors Sought
For Economic Development Summit
Mark your
calendar and save the date for the 2008
Hollywood Economic Development Summit. This
year’s popular event will take place on
Thursday, June 19th, from 8 a.m. to
10:30 a.m. Because of sell-outs the past two
years, the summit will be moved to the
CineramaDome this year to ensure that everyone
who wants to attend can be accommodated. The
theme for 2008 is “Taking Hollywood to the Next
Level” and will feature the very latest
information on what is happening in Hollywood.
A special focus of the conference will be
in-fill development, using Selma Avenue as a
case study on what is happening in the film
capital. A Hollywood Visionary Award
will be presented to James M. Nederlander, Sr.,
who is the owner of the Pantages Theatre and
adjoining properties. Sponsors are still being
sought for the summit and will be taken through
May 15th. For a list of the
