Chamber Board
Discusses and Makes Plans in Riverside

The Board of the
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce held its annual
Planning Conference this past weekend at the
Mission Inn in Riverside. A total of 38 board
members and staff spent the weekend discussing
key issues in the community. Board members pay
their own way to the conference, which
demonstrates their commitment to Hollywood.
Among the sessions held at the conference were:
Membership Services, Economic Development,
Tourism, Parking and Transportation, Walk of
Fame issues, and Assisting Small Businesses.
Recommendations from the retreat will be
finalized over the next month and published for
the membership to review. In addition to the
retreat sessions, Chamber board members also met
with the Assistant City Manager of Riverside to
be briefed on efforts that city is pursuing to
encourage revitalization, and came away
impressed with Riverside’s very active agenda,
known as the Riverside Renaissance.

Garcetti Briefs
Community on Transportation Strategy

Los Angeles City
Council President Eric Garcetti briefed
community leaders last week at a meeting at the
Chamber on initiatives he plans to pursue to
address transportation issues in Hollywood.
“I’m a big believer in putting things down in
writing, and either hit our goals or find a very
good reason why we didn’t,” said Garcetti.
Among the goals he announced were to close the
funding gap and start construction by the end of
this year on the long-awaited Vine Street
parking garage. Other goals included: creating
a valet district or pilot valet program,
improving signage at Hollywood parking garages
and on the street, exploring public-private
partnerships to develop additional parking
structures, improving taxi operations,
completing the CRA’s Mobility Strategic Plan,
and increasing Red Line subway hours.

beautification services for many years and
always had a dream to develop a building to
house their programs. On hand to help break the
ground were Assemblymember Kevin DeLeon,
Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, City Councilman Tom
LaBonge, and former Assemblymember Jackie
Goldberg. The HBT provides cleaning services to
