Chamber Adopts
Position on Subway to the Westside
The
Board of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
adopted a position relative to the proposed
“Subway to the Sea” last week. The Chamber
pledged its support of the Mayor’s efforts to
extend the subway to the Westside. However, the
Chamber recommended that before the line is
built west of the 405 freeway, it would make
more sense from a strategic standpoint to
connect the line from Wilshire Blvd. through
Beverly Hills and West Hollywood to the
Hollywood and Highland station. “Given the
extensive benefits of creating a ‘triangle’ to
allow people to easily move between the Westside
and these popular business and entertainment
areas, the Chamber believes that METRO must
refocus its efforts on completion of the
‘triangle’ before considering any extension of
the subway system beyond the 405 freeway,” said
the Chamber statement approved by the board. The
Chamber will pass this recommendation on to the
METRO board at a meeting later this week.
