Freeway Cap Park Study Underway

Chamber,
Community Redevelopment Agency, Caltrans and
City officials met this week with
representatives of EDAW to kick off the
long-awaited feasibility study on creating a
park above the Hollywood Freeway. EDAW is the
firm selected to conduct the study and has
assembled a multi-disciplined team of experts to
work on the project. Representatives of EDAW
explained the approach they will follow in
conducting the study and how they will take into
consideration input provided by the community at
an outreach meeting held in January. The date
of Saturday, April 12, was selected for the next
community outreach meeting when EDAW will report
on progress and gather additional information
from the Hollywood community. More information
on that meeting will be distributed as soon as
details are available.

Economic
Development Committee Reviews Columbia Square
Project; Sets Date for 2008 Economic Summit
Representatives
of the proposed Columbia Square mixed-use
project provided the Economic Development
Committee with an update this week, in advance
of the release of their Environmental Impact
Report, anticipated in the next few weeks. The
project calls for the restoration of the
historic CBS facility as well as the addition of
a 40-story residential tower, a 14-story office
tower, and a 125-room boutique hotel.
Developers said that by the time the project is
approved, they expect the current real estate
slowdown to have settled down. Because of the
size of the project, it will also be presented
to the Chamber Board of Directors prior to the
adoption of an official Chamber position.
In other
business, the committee worked on details of the
2008 Hollywood Economic Development Summit, and
announced that it will be held on Thursday, June
19th at the ArcLight Cinemas.
