Chamber’s China Participants Return to Los Angeles

On Friday, November 2, the Chamber’s China Trip Participants returned to Los Angeles with memories, photos, and souvenirs of the experience of nine days in Asia. The itinerary took the 135 participants to Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Shanghai.  The delegation was shuttled through the cities and around the Chinese countryside in five deluxe tour buses.  The trip afforded participants varied experiences, from climbing the Great Wall to visiting Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, from boat tours on lakes and rivers to the waterfront Bund in Shanghai.  “Our boat tour in Suzhou, referred to by some as the Venice of the Orient, was one of the highlights. We got off the boat in a small town with a vibrant local market serving residents, not just tourists.  It provided one of the most authentic glimpses into traditional Chinese life,” said Todd Lindgren, Chamber Sr. Vice President.  “Many participants have told the Chamber staff they are still adjusting to the time change and jet lag since returning one week ago but still enthusiastically describe it as the experience of a lifetime,” he added.

Councilman Tom LaBonge to Address the Business Community

“Transportation, Tourism and Tom” will be the theme of the Hollywood Chamber’s annual luncheon with Councilmember Tom LaBonge on Thursday, November 15th at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, 7000 Hollywood Blvd.  Councilman LaBonge has represented the Fourth Council District, which includes much of residential Hollywood and portions of the business community, since 2001.  As is traditional with the Councilman’s luncheon, LaBonge will moderate a panel of City experts on various issues of interest to Hollywood.  Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with the luncheon following at 12 noon.  Admission is $55 for Chamber members and $65 for non-members.  Reserved tables of 10 are available for $600 and include signage and preferred seating.  Reservations can be made by logging on to the chamber website:  www.hollywoodchamber.net.

The Chamber expresses appreciation to presenting sponsors Iron Mountain Film & Sound Archives and CRA/LA.  Additional supporting sponsors include Paramount Contracting and Andrews International Security.

Members Invited to Chamber Open House

With Thanksgiving around the corner the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an open house to express our “thanks” to Chamber members the evening of Tuesday, November 20th. The Open House is an opportunity for the Chamber to welcome its members to tour the Chamber’s “home base” and to network in a relaxed environment with Chamber staff and Board members.  Festivities will include delicious appetizers served by Soul Hollywood restaurant, as well as tastes of fine wines hand picked for the event by experts from K&L Wine Merchants. Iron Mountain Film & Archive Service, a member of the Chamber’s Premiere Investors Club, is generously sponsoring the Open House, which will be held at the Chamber offices, 7018 Hollywood Boulevard, on Tuesday November 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Admission is free for Chamber members and their guests and $10 for non-members.  Discounted valet parking at the Hollywood Roosevelt is available for $3.50. Although there is no charge to attend for members, in order to ensure an accurate count for food and beverage preparation, PLEASE RSVP in advance to marlene@hollywoodchamber.net or online at www.hollywoodchamber.net.

Chamber’s Annual Police And Firefighters Appreciation BBQ – Friday November 16

The Chamber’s annual Police and Firefighters Appreciation BBQ seems more relevant than ever, as the recent fires in the southland highlighted the ways in which our police officers and firefighters put themselves in harm’s way to protect the citizenry.  Our police officers did an excellent job working in harmony with the firefighters to effectively evacuate homes, while controlling the crowds and keeping our streets safe.  A small way that we as a community can give back to these local heroes is to offer a fun day of food, prizes, and heartfelt thanks.  If you would like to be a volunteer at this year’s event, please contact Kaylee@hollywoodchamber.net.  The Chamber would like to thank Andrews International Security, along with Charcoal Restaurant and Avalon Nightclub for their extremely generous donations.

Munchkin Fundraiser/ Wizard of Oz Showing at Chinese

“As, Coroner, I must aver,
I thoroughly examined her,
And she’s not only MERELY dead,
She’s really most SINCERELY dead.”

CORONER, played by Meinhardt Raabe

The Walk of Fame will bestow a star on the seven remaining original Munchkins from the Wizard of Oz on November 20th.  To celebrate this grand and glorious occasion, Hollywood Heritage and the Hollywood Chamber Community Foundation have joined together to present a special evening, in their honor, on Monday night, November 19th at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre, including a Munchkin Sponsors Reception and a screening of the restored technicolor print of the Wizard of Oz, the only print that exists in its original format!  Bring the family to this once in a lifetime opportunity. For event details, sponsorship information, and screening tickets, Reserve Here.

Chamber Senior V.P. Heads to FilmL.A.

Chamber Senior Vice President Todd Lindgren concludes seven years of service to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce this week.  He has accepted a position as Vice President of Communications with FilmL.A., Inc.  Todd first began work for the Chamber in 2000 as its Director of Governmental Affairs.  After four years he moved on to work as a deputy to Mayor James Hahn.  He returned to the Chamber three years ago to produce the Hollywood Christmas Parade and was promoted this past year to the Senior V.P. position.  “Todd has been a great contributor to the Hollywood Chamber, and he will be missed,” said Chamber President & CEO Leron Gubler.  “However, we congratulate him on a great career opportunity.  The positive thing is that we will still be able to work with him on entertainment-related issues.  We wish him the very best in this new position.”
