Chamber Hosts Hollywood & Vine Construction Meeting

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce played host this week to Council District 13’s Hollywood & Vine Construction Meeting.  The amount of new development beginning construction in the area surrounding Hollywood and Vine Streets has necessitated better coordination between the various parties.  The Council office is facilitating a monthly meeting to resolve construction-related issues.  Developers participating in the meeting included Gatehouse and Legacy Partners (who are developing Hollywood & Vine), the Clarett Group (building Boulevard 6200), Camden Development (Whole Foods), and Palisades Development (PaliHouse).  Besides coordinating construction issues at the meeting, the City demonstrated its Public Way Reservation System, that allows anyone to go online to see what construction is authorized in any given area.

Hollywood Shopper Offers Great Way to Reach the Hollywood Residents

Hollywood Chamber introduces Hollywood Shopper, a direct-mail advertising vehicle for Chamber membersThe Hollywood Chamber staff is hard at work developing the Chamber’s first-ever, direct-mail advertising piece, the Hollywood Shopper!  The Hollywood Shopper will be a 40-page booklet filled with savings and discounts from local retailers, restaurants, and venues that would like to extend special offers to local residents.  “Our members have told us that there is no easy, affordable way to advertise their services to the local community,” said Chamber President & CEO Leron Gubler. “This coupon book is our answer to that problem.” The Hollywood Shopper will reach 30,000 homes in the greater Hollywood area, and will arrive the week before Thanksgiving, creating an ideal opportunity for advertisers. Restaurants are using the Hollywood Shopper to showcase holiday menus and available party space, while retailers are creating in-store coupons, which allow them to track the business and raise awareness of their location. Whether your company rents cars, or sells flowers, this is your perfect chance to let the locals know who you are … and what you have to offer!  For further information, contact Kaylee Kiecker at kaylee@hollywoodchamber.net

Chamber Helps Members Save $$$$ With Info. At Seminar

Hollywood Chamber members will have an opportunity to learn how their businesses can save literally thousands of dollars, by attending a Chamber-sponsored seminar on Tuesday October 11th from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.  The seminar will focus on the new Los Angeles Enterprise Zone.

Approved for Los Angeles in December 2006, the Enterprise Zone is designed to stimulate growth and development in select areas.  Numerous benefits are available to businesses, including employee hiring tax credits, a sales or use tax credit for the purchase of equipment, an accelerated depreciation deduction, a net interest deduction, net operating loss carryover, reduction in DWP electrical rates, site plan review fee waivers, installment payments on sewer facility charges, and reduced parking requirements.

Presenters include Kim Brown and Joanne Lu of the L.A. Community Development Department.  In addition, Ira Bershatsky of Capital Credits Consulting (CCC) who is sponsoring the breakfast will provide information about how CCC leverages “leading-edge processes” to capture the maximum allowable tax credits for its clients.  Please visit www.capitalcreditsconsulting.com for more information.

The event will be held in the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce conference room, located at 7018 Hollywood Boulevard.  Cost to attend is $10 for members and $25 for non-members.  Seating is limited to the first 40 pre-paid reservations (reservations and payment in advance is required).   Do not miss this important Chamber membership opportunity!  Please RSVP to Vivian@hollywoodchamber.net or call (323) 469-8311.

Task Force Studies Universal Studios Master Plan

A special Chamber task force, co-chaired by Frank DeFoe of Ramsey-Shilling Commercial Real Estate and Laurie Goldman of GO! Goldman Organization, met this week with representatives of Universal Studios and Thomas Properties, who are proposing a master plan to guide development of the 391-acre Universal Studios and an adjacent 11-acre parcel adjacent to the Universal City subway station.  Universal is proposing up to 2,900 residential units of back lot space and a 500-room hotel, while Thomas Properties is proposing a 1-million sq. ft. office development in two phases.  The Chamber task force is reviewing the proposals and will be making recommendations to the Chamber Board of Directors later this year.

Hollywood Giant Lew Wasserman Honored with Star

A posthumous star in honor of MCA movie mogul Lew Wasserman was installed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week.  Wasserman, who died at age 89 in 2002, built Universal Studios into a powerhouse in the industry.  Jeffrey Katzenberg spoke at the ceremony and said, “His name still commands a level of respect and awe amount entertainment executives.  Many names would not be on this Walk of Fame if it weren’t for Lew Wasserman.  There will never be another like him.”  Accepting the star on behalf of the family was his grandson, Casey Wasserman.  His widow, Edie, was on hand for the ceremony, which was the 2,349th star installed on Hollywood’s famous Walk.

What do you think about traffic and congestion on the Westside? Metro wants to hear from you!

Metro has just started work on the Westside Extension Transit Corridor Study which will look at ways to improve mobility on the Westside of Los Angeles. The study, which is in its first “Alternatives Analysis” phase, will examine potential alignments, modes and station locations throughout the 38 square mile study area. Please attend an October public meeting for the Westside Extension Transit Corridor Study.
• Does transit need to be improved on the Westside?
• Do you prefer subway, light rail, more buses or another mode?
• Do you like a Wilshire or a Santa Monica Boulevard alignment better?
• Do you want a station in your neighborhood?
• What is important to you in evaluating these alternatives?
Content at these meetings will be identical, so make sure to attend at the time and location most convenient for you. Please join Metro at one of five upcoming community meetings where you can comment on what you want Metro to study. Click here to learn more.
