accelerated depreciation deduction, a net interest
deduction, net operating loss carryover, reduction in DWP
electrical rates, site plan review fee waivers, installment
payments on sewer facility charges, and reduced parking
requirements.
Presenters include Kim Brown and Joanne Lu of the L.A.
Community Development Department. In addition, Ira
Bershatsky of Capital Credits Consulting (CCC) who is
sponsoring the breakfast will provide information about how
CCC leverages “leading-edge processes” to capture the
maximum allowable tax credits for its clients.

Legislative
Leaders Told Sacramento’s Inaction Hurts
Entertainment Industry

Brooks, Assemblyman Paul Krekorian, Kent McCord,
Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas, Lisa Rawlins and
moderator Steve MacDonald.
The
Hollywood Chamber’s annual Entertainment Industry Luncheon
this week at the Roosevelt Hotel sent a strong message to
legislators that inaction in Sacramento over the past 10
years is threatening a vital California industry.
Representatives from industry and the legislature spoke on a
panel about potential solutions to the problem. It was
noted that 37 states have approved tax incentives as an
inducement for movies to be shot in their domain, while
California has done nothing. Stan Brooks of the California
Film Commission said, “We don’t need a level playing field
in California. We just need something. The gap is now so
large that we can’t make in work in California.” As a
result, numerous skilled craftsmen in the industry are
moving to the states where there is work. Assemblyman Paul
Krekorian, who chairs the Select Committee on the
Preservation of the Entertainment Industry, referred to the
State’s current budget crisis and said, “Maybe we would be
in less of a crisis if we had done the right thing 10 years
ago.” He pledged renewed efforts to convince the
legislature that tax incentives for film production will
generate more revenue than they cost the State and that they
should be enacted. The Hollywood Chamber will continue to
press for action on this important issue.

Chamber
Introduces Direct-Mail Advertising Vehicle for
Chamber Members
The
Hollywood Chamber is pleased to announce its
first-ever, direct-mail advertising campaign,
the Hollywood Shopper! The Hollywood
Shopper will be a 40-page booklet filled
with savings and discounts from local retailers,
restaurants, and venues that would like to
extend special offers to local residents. “Our
members have told us that there is no easy,
affordable way to advertise their services to
the local community,” said Chamber President &
CEO Leron Gubler. “This coupon book is our
answer to that problem.” The Hollywood Shopper
will reach 30,000 homes in the greater Hollywood
area, and will arrive the week before
Thanksgiving, creating an ideal opportunity for
advertisers. Restaurants are using the Hollywood
Shopper to showcase holiday menus and available
party space, while retailers are creating
in-store coupons, which allow them to track the
business and raise awareness of their location.
Whether your company rents cars, or sells
flowers, this is your perfect chance to let the
locals know who you are … and what you have to
offer!
For more
information on the Holiday Shopper, please contact Kaylee
Kiecker at

Annual All Hallows Eve Fundraiser Canceled …but
Don’t Despair! Universal Studios offers Chamber
Members Special Discount
The Hollywood
Chamber Foundation’s popular All Hallows
Eve Party at Hollywood Forever Cemetery
has been canceled this year due to scheduling
problems caused by the special Chamber mission
to China that departs the last week of October.
“We are sorry to disappoint anyone who was
looking forward to this annual party,” said Jeff
Briggs, who chairs the Foundation. “We look
forward to bringing the party back next year.”
As an alternative for Halloween party animals,
the Chamber urges members to consider Halloween
Horror nights, which is back at Universal
Studios every weekend in October! Guests are
invited to experience four new mazes featuring
Freddy, Jason and Leatherface as well as the
all-new Terror Tram. Universal Studios is
offering Hollywood Chamber members a special
price on October 5th or 6th
of $29 per ticket, instead of the regular price
of $51! Please call Aileen Oganesyan at
(818)622-3790 for more information. This event
is for guests 13 years and older and not
recommended for the faint of heart!
