Don’t Miss the A-LIST Mixer at Red Pearl Kitchen

The Chamber’s quarterly young professionals networking event, the A-LIST, will be held on Tuesday, September 18th at the hip Melrose Avenue venue, Red Pearl Kitchen Hollywood. Designed for the younger demographic of Chamber members, the A-LIST provides a relaxed atmosphere to network with peers while enjoying one of Hollywood’s hot spots. "The A-LIST is intended to bring together this group to encourage leadership development and build professional relationships with peers,” said Bette Jean French, Chamber Vice President of Membership. Red Pearl Kitchen, a restaurant group that changed the culinary landscape in San Diego and Huntington Beach, opened in Hollywood last fall, courtesy of enterprising restaurateurs Tim and Liza Goodell. The restaurant blends contemporary Asian cuisine with sensual design elements and a “hopping” bar scene.  The A-LIST will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Cost to attend is $10 for members and $20 for non-members, which includes delicious samplings of Red Pearl Kitchen's cuisine and two beverages.  Valet parking is $6 or area metered street parking is available. Please RSVP to (323) 469-8311, steven@hollywoodchamber.net, or www.hollywoodchamber.net.

Chamber Joins L.A. County Business Federation

The Executive Committee of the Hollywood Chamber voted this week to become a charter member of the Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed).  This new organization, which is currently in the formative stages, will strengthen the grassroots voice of L.A. County businesses on issues at the local, state, and federal level.  “For too long, business organizations have not worked together on key issues of importance to our members,” said Chamber President & CEO Leron Gubler.  “As a result, we have been left on the sidelines when it comes to being a player on the decisions that have been made.  This new organization will assist us in coordinating our efforts to have the business voice heard.”  As of the end of August, more than 20 associations representing 45,000 businesses had already signed up as members of BizFed.

Send a Message to Sacramento:
Do Something About Runaway Production!

Hollywood Chamber members will have an opportunity on September 26th to send a message to the State Legislature that we are dissatisfied with the State’s lack of action.  The Chamber will be sponsoring its annual Entertainment Industry Luncheon featuring the theme:  Sacramento and Hollywood – Can the Gap be Closed?  Steve MacDonald of FilmL.A., Inc. will moderate a panel that will discuss the topic.  Panelists will include Assembly members Paul Krekorian and Michael Feuer, Stan Brooks of the California Film Commission, Kathy Garmezy of the Directors Guild, Kent McCord of the Screen Actors Guild, and Lisa Rawlins of Warner Bros. Also being honored for his contribution to the industry will be Johnny Grant. Tickets to the luncheon are $75 for members and reserved tables of 10 are available for $800.  Help send a message to Sacramento by attending this luncheon. Reservations can be made by going to the Chamber website:  www.hollywoodchamber.net.

Automated Parking Ordinance Approved by City Council

The Los Angeles City Council gave final approval this week to an ordinance that will allow developers to consider mechanical car lifts and robotic parking structures in order to meet their parking requirements.  The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce endorsed the measure as a step that will give developers the flexibility they need to meet City parking requirements.  The Chamber’s expert on automated parking technology, Frank DeFoe of Ramsey-Shilling Real Estate, has just returned from New Jersey where he observed the latest advancements in technology that make automated parking more attractive as an alternative.

Access L.A. Offers Members Chance to See City Hall Operations

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is one of several business organizations that are participating in Access L.A. City Hall on Thursday, September 20th, from 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  The annual FREE event allows the business community to meet with top City officials and to discuss such key issues as affordable housing, water and power, gridlock and public transportation, gang violence, improving the business climate, and the modernizing of LAX.  To register for this event, go to:  www.lachamber.org  or call (213)580-7565.

 Legislative Action Committee in Action

On Wednesday the Legislative Action Committee met and reviewed the state budget impact on transportation. Jody Feerst Litvak from MTA Regional Communications informed the committee that $1.3 billion was diverted from public transit to help the state balance the budget.  The California Transit Association, of which the MTA is a member, filed a lawsuit to protect the transportation allotment of the gas tax and voter-approved transportation propositions. The MTA is updating its Long Range Transportation Plan.  Beginning September 21st, the MTA’s “scoping period” for the Westside transit corridor extension will last for six weeks. During this time the public is encouraged to provide input on the modes, alignment and priorities for public transit on the Westside in order to determine the “locally preferred alternative.”  The committee will be reviewing the alternatives and providing the Chamber Board its recommendation for formal Chamber support. For more information, please visit www.mta.net.
