Chamber Plans for the Holidays

The Hollywood Chamber sponsored a meeting this week with key Hollywood stakeholders to discuss possible holiday events for the community to replace the Hollywood Christmas Parade, which the Chamber had previously announced would no longer be held due to potential losses and declining television viewership.  The brainstorming session engendered numerous ideas and suggestions.  A consensus emerged that a weekend would be selected this year with a theme around which various venues could plan events that would be jointly promoted.  A follow-up meeting was scheduled to continue the planning effort.

Hearings Continue for Hollywood & Vine

Although the $600-million Hollywood & Vine project is already under construction, various entitlements for the key catalytic project are still under review by the City of Los Angeles.  At a hearing this week, Chamber Senior Vice President Todd Lindgren testified in support of the development’s conditional use permit to permit the sale and service of alcoholic beverages, a permit for a dance floor in the W Hotel’s proposed night club, and for the sign program that had previously been approved by the CRA. These requests will next go before the Area Planning Commission on July 10th.

Blue Star Memorial Plaque Dedicated

A dedication ceremony was held this week at the Gateway to Hollywood median on Cahuenga Ave. to unveil a Blue Star Memorial Plaque in honor of the country’s fallen war heroes.  The presentation was made by the Los Angeles Garden Club, and continues a tradition they established in 1945.  Honorary Mayor Johnny Grant and L.A. Councilman Tom LaBonge were on hand for the ceremony.  The landscaped median was recently completed by the Yucca Corridor Coalition, which is now raising money to light the monument Hollywood Sign installed at the site.
