Chamber of Commerce.
The Hollywood
Chamber of Commerce held a reception this week
at the Blue Palms Lounge at The Music Box
Theatre to honor Helmi Hisserich, the former
Hollywood Regional Administrator for CRA/LA.
Helmi was recently named by Mayor Villaraigosa
to be his new Deputy Mayor for Housing and
Economic Development Policy. Chamber President
& CEO Leron Gubler noted the significant
leadership role that Hisserich had played in
Hollywood and said that her efforts were key in
getting the $600-million Hollywood & Vine
project approved and in securing a commitment
from the Motion Picture Academy to locate their
proposed $200-million museum here. Helping to
underwrite the cost of the reception were:
Greer/Dailey/Minter, the Hollywood Entertainment
District, Laing Urban, Legacy Partners, Madame
Tussauds, Marathon Communications and Sunset
Urban Properties.

City Approves Signage
Plan for 6904 Hollywood Blvd.
The
Central Area Planning Commission reversed a
Planning Dept. decision this week and approved
the signage plan proposed by the CIM Group for
6904 Hollywood Blvd. Chamber Senior Vice
President Todd Lindgren testified, lending the
Chamber’s strong support of CIM’s plans. The
historic building, located just west of the old
Masonic Temple, is sometimes referred to as the
Seven Seas Building, but had fallen into a state
of serious disrepair. CIM is investing a great
deal in order to fix up what was considered by
many to be an embarrassment to the community,
located in such close proximity to the Kodak
Theatre. Plans are to restore the building
façade to its original condition. The proposed
signage is necessary in order to make the
project pencil out.

Garcetti Convenes
Working Group to Find Parking Solutions
City Council
President Eric Garcetti convened a meeting of
Hollywood business leaders this week to discuss
ways to address the parking issues facing the
community as the revitalization gathers steam.
He noted the need for a public-private
partnership to find solutions. Updates were
provided by the Planning Department, Dept. of
Transportation, and CRA on City efforts to
develop plans. A list of ideas was developed
for further research and it was agreed that a
smaller working group should pursue the
suggestions. Garcetti challenged the group to
have concrete proposals ready by midsummer, and
to not let “process hold up progress.” Chamber
board members participating in the meeting
included David Green, Dave Gajda, and Marty
Shelton, as well as Chamber President & CEO
Leron Gubler.

Palladium Plans Announced
Hollywood's
Honorary Mayor Johnny Grant was on hand this
Wednesday at a press conference to announce the
restoration of the 66-year old Hollywood
Palladium by Live Nation, the world’s largest
live music company. Live Nation plans to
completely renovate the 4,000 capacity venue,
including major upgrades to the stage
infrastructure to accommodate larger
productions. The facility will get a
top-to-bottom overhaul of all interior and
exterior areas which will bring it up-to-date,
while preserving the original aesthetic
integrity. The renovation will begin
immediately and is expected to reopen in fall
2008. Grant, who once conducted a DJ
interview show and a coast-to-coast Big Band
broadcast from the Palladium, expressed pleasure
at learning that the building so connected with
Hollywood’s golden era, was going to be
preserved.
