Chamber Installs Officers,
Honors Distributed

Nearly 200
Chamber members were on hand this week for the
86th annual Hollywood Chamber of
Commerce Installation and Awards Luncheon. Jeff
Briggs of Briggs Law Office was installed for a
second term as Chairman of the Board. He
becomes the first Chamber chairperson in 15
years to serve two terms. In his comments after
being installed by Honorary Mayor Johnny Grant,
Briggs said he was humbled by the opportunity to
serve a second term and to be able to finish
some of the work that was still in progress. He
pledged to complete formation of the Chamber’s
political action committee, to join forces with
labor and small businesses to fight runaway
production, and to address the parking
challenges in Hollywood. “The Chamber is
committed to the interests of the entire
community,” he said. “It may take us 10 years
to finish the freeway cap park, but it will get
done due to the partnerships we have formed.”
In addition,
Briggs presented The Chairman’s Award to
Don Scott in recognition of his devoted efforts
to move plans for a freeway cap park forward.
Bob Barker, the long-time host of The Price
is Right, was presented with the Chamber’s
Lifetime Achievement Award. Barker, who has 50
years in broadcasting, will retire later this
year.

Bond
Project Clears Another Hurdle

Chamber Vice
President of Public Policy Rochelle Silsbee
testified again this week on behalf of the Bond
Companies’ new Hollywood Garfield mixed-use,
residential and retail development project,
slated for 5555 Hollywood Blvd., in east
Hollywood. The project was unanimously approved
by the Planning and Land Use Management
Committee of the L.A. City Council. Appeals
against the project were heard, but the strong
neighborhood and community support, along with
the benefits this project will deliver, carried
the day. This catalytic project will stimulate
progress along the eastern stretches of
Hollywood Blvd., and has been strongly supported
by the Chamber.
