Capacity Crowd hears
State of Hollywood Address

A
capacity crowd of 320 Hollywood community
leaders were on hand this week to hear L.A.
Council President Eric Garcetti deliver the 14th
annual State of Hollywood Address at the
Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. In a remarkable
turn, the event sold out only three days after
tickets went on sale. “It was definitely the
hottest ticket in town,” said Chamber President
Leron Gubler. Garcetti addressed three major
issues in his address: Infrastructure
improvements, public-private partnerships in
Hollywood, and fostering a pro-growth business
environment. “In Hollywood, we’re through
speaking of comebacks,” he stated. “We’re
already back. The state of Hollywood today is
leading Los Angeles – showing the whole city how
to do it right. Hollywood shows how our big
city begins with a great small town.” He noted
that the Community Redevelopment Agency had
taken a public investment of $642-million and
leveraged it to attract $3.3-billion in private
investment. He also reported that the business
tax reforms he had championed with Councilmember
Wendy Greuel had already returned $92-million to
Los Angeles businesses. Read

Hollywood

Discussing plans for a joint Hollywood/OPI
promotion are: (left to right) Richard Peterson
of LA, Inc.; Elizabeth McDonald of Hollywood
Chamber; Chris Orr of Renaissance Hotel; Harris
Shepard of Harris Shepard P.R.; Jill
Bartoshevich of OPI, and Laurie Golden, Chamber
Publicist.
The Hollywood
Chamber of Commerce is working with OPI, the
world’s largest nail-care company on a holiday
promotion for 2007 that will feature Hollywood.
OPI’s massive holiday advertising campaign will
offer an opportunity to position Hollywood in a
positive light before prominent opinion leaders
from some of the nation’s most prominent print
publications. Chamber Vice President of Tourism
Elizabeth McDonald is coordinating ways in which
Hollywood businesses can tie-in to and benefit
from the promotion. Among the possibilities
being considered is hosting a press event to
bring New York media to Hollywood or a
sweepstakes contest. For further information,

Have You
Written DOT Yet?"
Two years ago, Department
of Transportation (DOT) officials promised to
begin construction on the garage in order to
time its completion to that of the Encore Hall
gay and lesbian elder housing that took up half
of the surface
lot. Encore Hall will be completed
this March and the City has yet to break ground
on the garage. DOT is now saying they can’t
break ground before 2008. The Chamber is urging its
members to either write or email Gloria Jeff,
the general manager of the Department of
Transportation, and request a quicker start on
the garage. Her email address is:
Gloria.Jeff@lacity.org.
A sample
letter to Gloria Jeff is attached.
