Chamber Reviews
Two Development Proposals
The Economic
Development Committee met this week to review to
new development proposals for Hollywood
projects. Chamber positions are pending on both
projects.
Camden’s Whole Foods Market and Apartments

Camden USA is
proposing a 428,423-sq.ft. development at the
corner of Vine St. and Selma Ave., currently a
Grant Parking surface lot. The 11-story
complex would feature a 67,500-sq.ft. Whole
Foods Market on the ground floor, with 250
subterranean parking spaces serving the grocery
store. Above the store would be 550
separate parking spaces to serve the 306
apartments. A total of 34,700-sq.ft. of
open space is planned for the development in
various courtyards, roof decks and recreation
areas serving the apartments. The first
hearings on the project will begin in January.
The company hopes to begin construction in 2008,
with occupancy in 2010.
Office Condos Proposed by Brentwood Capital

An unusual
commercial project is being proposed by
Brentwood Capital Partners adjacent to the
historic Hollywood Citizen News Building.
The company is proposing a 60,000-sq.ft.
building on the site of the parking lot serving
the Citizen News Building along Selma Ave. west
of Wilcox. Included will be from 185-200
parking spaces that would serve both buildings.
The U-shaped, modern building would feature
office condos, a segment of the commercial
office market not now existing in Hollywood.
Brentwood plans to file with the City in January
and hopes to be under construction in about a
year.

Walk
of Fame Repair/Preservation Issues Studied

In two separate
meetings this week, issues related to the Walk
of Fame were discussed. A special task force has
been working for several months to find a
solution to continuing subsidence and upheaval
on the Walk in front of the Hollywood & Highland
complex. A terrazzo expert was called in
to determine new construction standards, which
will be used on a test strip at the corner in
front of the Gap Store. The goal is to
have the test section completed in the next two
months. If it is successful, repairs will
be done along the entire stretch where the
problems are occurring. A separate meeting
this week was held between the Chamber, City,
and contractors for the Hollywood & Vine
project. Construction on that landmark
project, which begins next month, will require
the removal and storage of stars along Vine
Street from the Taft Building south to Selma
Avenue. Discussion was held on the best
method to preserve the stars and to rebuild that
section at the conclusion of construction.

Chamber Supports
Restoration of
6904 Hollywood
Blvd.
Rochelle
Silsbee, Chamber V.P. of Public Policy, was on
hand at the CRA meeting this week to show
Chamber support for the CIM Group’s planned
restoration of the 6904 Hollywood Blvd.
building. The property, between the Jimmy
Kimmel Show and Hamburger Hamlet, has been in a
dilapidated state for years. CIM Group
plans to restore the historic façade of the
building and to build a 22,800-sq.ft. addition
on the rear of the building. They
anticipate that the rehabbed building will
contain two, two-story retail establishments,
with office use on third floor. Currently,
the upper floors are vacant. CIM also
proposes replacing the existing rooftop
billboard with a modern “V” shaped open-frame
decorative tower accented by neon light.
Each sign face would contain a solid panel that
would accommodate advertising graphics.
CIM hopes to commence construction in February,
with completion in January 2008.
