Chamber Visits with New Assemblyman

(Left to rt.) Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler, Chairman of the Board Jeff Briggs, Assemblyman Michael Feuer, and Michael-Jon Smith of AT&T

Hollywood Chamber leaders met with newly-elected Assemblyman Michael Feuer this week to discuss legislative priorities.  Feuer replaced outgoing Assemblyman Paul Koretz in representing the 42nd Assembly District that encompasses western portions of Hollywood.  Chamber Chairman Jeff Briggs asked the Assemblyman to help with passage of legislation to help stem runaway film production and to assist in gaining funding for studies related to the proposed Hollywood freeway cap park. Feuer took the opportunity to announce that he had been appointed as chairman of the Subcommittee of the Budget on Transportation.  He noted that his priorities include transportation, healthcare reform, education and the environment. Feuer pledged to work with the Chamber.

The Nominating Committee has selected persons to fill vacancies on the Hollywood Chamber Board of Directors for terms that will run from April 2007 through March 2010, according to Bob Swift, chair of the committee.  A notice will be sent to all members next week to officially announce the candidates and to explain how additional candidates may be nominated.  The following people were recommended to fill terms for the first time:  George Abou-Daoud of The Bowery, Shake Bakalyan of Wells Fargo Bank; Matt Cooper of The Post Group, and Laurie Goldman of GO! Goldman Organization.  In addition several current directors were eligible for election to a second term.  They included:  Dave Gajda of Access It, Carol Massie of McDonalds, Earl Lestz of ESL Consulting, Milt Larsen of the Magic Castle, Maureen Schultz of Capitol Records, Thad Smith of The Music Box, and Steve Tronson of Ramsey-Shilling Commercial Real Estate.

L.A. Times Honored with Award of Excellence

The Hollywood Historic Trust honored the Los Angeles Times this week with a special “Award of Excellence” to recognize 125 years of covering Los Angeles and the entertainment industry.  A special star was unveiled by Johnny Grant on a portion of the sidewalk adjacent to the Walk of Fame in front of the Johnny Grant Building.  The Hollywood High School Band and Councilman Tom LaBonge were on hand to help honor the newspaper, and the Goodyear Blimp did a flyover.   Publisher David Hiller accepted on behalf of the paper. The Times joins the Hollywood Reporter and Daily Variety in receiving the special recognition.

Holly Trolley Runs on New Hours

After a lapse of several weeks, the Holly Trolley, Hollywood’s night-time circulator, is running again with new hours.  The trolley operates Thursday through Saturday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.  The new hours will enable people to patronize Hollywood’s restaurants early in the evening before attending the theatre and other entertainment venues.  The trolley enables patrons to park once at city parking facilities and to take the trolley rather than moving their vehicles. The Chamber will be working with the office of Council President Eric Garcetti to help publicize the new hours.
