The 75th
annual Hollywood Christmas Parade drew hundreds
of thousands of people to central Hollywood last
week. Broadcast live on KTLA, the parade
featured George Lopez as grand marshal and Regis
Philbin as a special 75th anniversary honorary
grand marshal.
The Parade, which will be seen
over the next month on stations covering 80% of
the nation, is one of the largest ventures
undertaken by any chamber of commerce.
If you missed
it, the Parade will be rebroadcast by KTLA on:
Saturday, Dec. 2, 2 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 9, 3 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 16, 6 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 23, 6 p.m.
Executive
Producer Todd Lindgren thanked everyone who
helped to make the parade a success. Positive
accolades have been rolling in to the chamber
office, calling it one of the best parades that
the Chamber has assembled. For a sampling of

Chamber Endorses Proposal for Old Fox Theatre
The Hollywood
Chamber of Commerce has endorsed plans to
convert a boarded-up theatre at 6505 Hollywood
Blvd. into a restaurant/nightclub to be known as
Crobar Hollywood. The Chamber’s support was
conditional, contingent on the developers
meeting the following criteria: (1) no use of
outside promoters in connection with operation
of the entertainment component, (2) that the
restaurant be a bonafide restaurant open to the
street so that there is activity during the
daytime, (3) that parking or parking credits
must be brand new and not take parking away from
existing establishments, and (4) that they would
support
the Holly Trolley. The developers have assured
the Chamber that they will meet those criteria.
The Chamber believes that the project could help
to revitalize this stretch of Hollywood Blvd.

Healthcare Committee Studies Nursing Programs
The Chamber
Healthcare Committee met this week to study ways
to expand the nursing program at Los Angeles
City College. Rhonda Mintz-Binder
from the college told the committee that their
third graduating class will include 47 nurses.
Plans call for doubling the size of the program
by next spring. The challenge is that state
funds provide for materials and classrooms but
not for full-time faculty, so funding still
needs to be identified. The goal is to
eventually have four nursing programs going
simultaneously. Sam Smith, co-chair of the
committee, said that the committee would
continue to work with the college on the
important program. With three major hospitals
located in Hollywood, it is important to train
local nurses to help meet the shortage.
