Chamber $100K for Park Study

Community leaders examine a map showing the site
of the proposed Hollywood Central Park
The
Board of the Community Redevelopment Agency
voted this week to contribute $100,000 to a
feasibility study to determine if it is possible
to build a park over the Hollywood Freeway on a
stretch that is below grade through Hollywood.
In addition, Don Scott who chairs the Chamber
task force investigating the park, reports that
the private sector and community groups have
pledged another $50,000 toward the study. The
Chamber, in conjunction with the CRA, will
solicit proposals within the next few months
from firms interested in submitting a bid to do
the study. The Chamber proposal for a Hollywood
Central Park has garnered media interest from
across the nation and as far away as England.
The Chamber and Don Scott have received
accolades for visionary leadership in trying to
meet a serious community need.

City
Council Authorizes Vote on East Hollywood BID
In another
positive sign for the formation of a business
improvement district (BID) in East Hollywood,
the Los Angeles City Council voted this week to
proceed with an election among property owners
to determine if a BID will be created. Ballots
will be mailed within the next two weeks and
property owners will have 45 days to respond.
At the conclusion of that period, the votes will
be counted, and, if a majority are cast in favor
of the district, it will be in operation early
next year. The Chamber has worked for six years
to create the district along Vermont Avenue
north of the Hollywood Freeway and including the
Sunset Blvd. area around the major hospitals.
“We believe this district will be the most
positive development for East Hollywood
businesses in many years,” said Chamber
President & CEO Leron Gubler.

sports bar with Sony Wega TV’s, a private VIP
room, and two full size bars with one of the
“largest assortment of beers ever assembled”.
The elegance, amenities, location and an
upstairs loft with an unobstructed view of the
Hollywood sign makes Hollywood Billiards a
perfect spot to hold an event. Hollywood
Billiards specializes in wrap parties,
premier/viewing parties, corporate events,
record releases, holiday parties and special
occasions of all kinds. Kimmy Ward, Events
Director, stated “Our highly trained staff are
