The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that actress Sofia Vergara will be honored with the 2,551st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. PDT. The star in the category of Television will be dedicated at 7013 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Marshalls Department store. “The Hollywood Chamber is proud to add some spice to the Hollywood Walk of Fame by immortalizing Sofia Vergara’s fame onto our iconic Walk of Fame. Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be actor Eric Stonestreet and “Modern Family” Co-creator/Executive Producer Steve Levitan.

Discovered on the beaches of Barranquilla, Colombia, Vergara began her career in a Pepsi-Cola commercial and history was made. World renowned as one of the funniest and sexiest stars today, Sofia Vergara is an Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominated actress. She can currently be seen as ‘Gloria Delgado-Pritchett’ in the five-time Emmy winner for Outstanding Comedy Series “Modern Family,” which airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.

Vergara will soon be seen opposite Reese Witherspoon in New Line Cinema’s and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ buddy comedy “Hot Pursuit,” distributed by Warner Bros Pictures. The film is slated for release on May 8th, the day after Vergara’s star induction ceremony. Vergara is also an executive producer on the film.

Vergara’s recent film appearances include starring opposite Woody Allen and Sharon Stone in John Turturro’s “Fading Gigolo” as well as co-starring in Open Road Films’ “Chef” with Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. and Simon West’s “Wild Card” with Jason Statham. Both “Fading Gigolo” and “Chef” posted one of the year’s best specialty box-office openings.

Vergara got her break in Disney’s comedy “Big Trouble” and since then has starred in films such as “Smurfs,” “Happy Feet 2,” “New Year’s Eve,” “Four Brothers” and Tyler Perry’s box office sensations “Meet The Browns” and “Madea Goes To Jail.”

On stage in 2009, Vergara earned rave reviews when she debuted in the Broadway production of “Chicago” as ‘Mama Morton.’

In the Hispanic market, some of her past TV credits include “Fuera de Serie” as well as her special guest appearance on 2008’s highest rated Spanish language soap opera, “Fuego en la Sangre” on Univision. Additionally, she executive produced the Spanish version of “Desperate Housewives.” The entertainment trade papers have also named her one of the most talented and powerful women in Hispanic entertainment.

Along with the recognition she has earned for her acting career, Vergara is also considered a successful entrepreneur with an especially strong celebrity brand. Being able to successfully cross over from her original audience of Hispanic consumers and spread her influence across all demographics, is something Vergara does on a daily basis with her retail lines, which range from furniture to hair care and fragrance and more appeal to virtually every demographic. She has a collection for Kay Jewelers called ‘So Sofia’ and her fragrance, Sofia by Sofia Vergara, launched last May and her second fragrance will be launched globally later this summer.

In 1994, Vergara founded Latin World Entertainment with business partner Luis Balaguer. Latin World Entertainment has grown from a management agency for top Hispanic talent to a multi-service company offering a 360° approach, and currently is the premier Hispanic talent management and entertainment marketing firm in the United States. The company represents the biggest stars, opinion-makers and trendsetters in the Spanish-speaking entertainment world, and leverages that star power to take brands and products directly into the growing Hispanic market.

In addition to her success as an actress and entrepreneur, Vergara is also committed to being active through various philanthropic endeavors. Vergara works closely with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In 2001, Vergara created “Peace and Hope for the Children of Colombia,” a foundation that has helped thousands of children in Colombia. She has also donated a pediatric cancer pavilion in her hometown, and currently dedicates her time giving back to this charity in Colombia.

Hollywood Chamber to honor Larry Elder with star on Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that radio personality Larry Elder will be honored with the 2,548th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday. April 27, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. PDT. The star in the category of Radio will be dedicated at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard next to the W Hollywood Hotel. “Larry Elder is one of the airwave’s most popular voices who shares his insightful discussions and opinions with legions of dedicated fans,” stated Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO. “We are proud to have him join our Walk of Fame family.”

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President & CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be Dean Cain, Dennis Prager and Jon Voight.

A “firebrand” according to “Daily Variety,” the best-selling author and radio talk-show host Larry Elder has a take-no-prisoners style, using such old-fashioned concepts as evidence and logic in his on-air discussions.

He recently hosted the longest-running afternoon drive time radio show in Los Angeles, beginning in March, 1994. “The Larry Elder Show,” was a top-rated daily program from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on KABC 790. Elder is currently broadcasting “The Larry Elder Show” live on www.larryelder.com, where he also produces video and audio podcasts forhis fans – the “Elderados.”

Known to his listeners as the “Sage From South Central,” Larry sizzles on the airwaves with his thoughtful insight on the day’s most provocative issues, to the delight, consternation, and entertainment of his listeners. The “Sage” engages political and cultural leaders in meaningful debates over race, government, personal responsibility and education that have elevated the talk radio genre. Elder’s views have fueled controversy and made him one of the most in-demand radio personalities cable news pundits in the country.

In his best-selling book, “The 10 Things You Can’t Say in America,” Elder skewers the crippling myths that dominate the public agenda. In his second book, “Showdown: Confronting Bias, Lies and the Special Interests That Divide America,” Elder again takes on the Nanny State, “victicrats” and the politically correct. His third book, “What’s Race Got to Do with It? Why it’s Time to Stop the Stupidest Argument in America,” is praised as a groundbreaking must-read for the future of race relations in America. His latest book, “Dear Father, Dear Son: Two Lives, Eight Hours,” is a deeply moving, personal story of anger and reconciliation with his dad, who grew up fatherless and was kicked out of his house at 13 years old, on the eve of the Great Depression in the Jim Crow South. Elder also writes a nationally syndicated newspaper column distributed through Creators Syndicate.

Elder was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. He received a B.A. in Political Science from Brown University in 1974, and graduated from University of Michigan, School of Law in 1977. After graduation, he worked with a large law firm in Cleveland, Ohio, where he practiced litigation. He then opened “Laurence A. Elder and Associates,” a business specializing in recruiting experienced attorneys. At the same time, he hosted a topic-oriented television show in Cleveland, initially on PBS, then on the local Fox affiliate.

Elder created, directed and produced his first film, “Michael & Me,” a documentary that examines the history and use of guns in America. It was released in August 2005.

He hosted the television show, “Moral Court,” distributed by Warner Brothers Television. In the fall of 2004, Warner Brothers returned Elder to daily television with “The Larry Elder Show,” an hour-long, multi-topic show that brought common sense, sound advice and realistic, workable solutions. Elder was the subject of profiles by both “60 Minutes” and “20/20.” In 1999, he received a Los Angeles area Emmy for “Best News Special.” He was the reporter for several episodes of the groundbreaking PBS “National Desk” series, including “Redefining Racism: Fresh Voices From Black America.” His PBS work earned him a 1998 AEGIS Award of Excellence, a 1998 Telly award, and a 1999 Emerald City Gold Award of Excellence.

Elder has established the Larry Elder Charities, a non-profit organization that contributes to groups and individuals offering non-government, self-help solutions to problems of poverty, crime, poor parenting, dependency, and education.

With ELO, he scored many hits throughout the 1970s, including “Can’t Get It Out of My Head,” “Livin’ Thing,” and “Don’t Bring Me Down” to name a few.

Lynne eventually went on to concentrate on production and songwriting work for fellow major stars, former Beatles Paul McCartney and George Harrison among them. He resurfaced as a performer in 1988, when he became a member of the Traveling Wilburys.

One thing that has made the past few years thrilling times for Jeff Lynne fans is that the man himself has been busy working in the studio—his natural environment—and increasingly onstage as well to bring Jeff Lynne’s ELO back to life for generations of fans all around the world. The love for Lynne’s musical genius was vividly apparent in September 2014 when ELO headlined BBC Radio2’s Hyde Park festival, the first time in almost 30 years that they’d been on a festival stage. The 50,000 fans in attendance sang along in joyous rapture with every word. More than 800,000 people tuned in to BBC’s “Red Button” to watch the show.

Recently in 2015, during Lynne’s surprise performance with Ed Sheeran at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Lynne’s contemporaries Paul McCartney and artists like Taylor Swift danced exuberantly in the aisles. Lynne’s high profile Grammy Awards appearance came nearly a year to the day after his wildly acclaimed performance at the televised Grammy salute to The Beatles, at which Lynne took his rightful place honoring his heroes and friends as he performed alongside Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh and Dhani Harrison. This exciting re-emergence also coincided with Lynne’s music—both vintage and new—being featured prominently in director David. O. Russell’s acclaimed film “American Hustle.”

In his own powerful but humble way, Jeff Lynne has been making waves all over the world for most of his musical life—a fact memorably documented in the acclaimed 2012 documentary Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne & ELO.

In 2012, Lynne returned to make waves all over again with Long Wave. Lynne’s extraordinary latest solo album found this remarkable artist recording some of the great popular songs that first inspired his lifelong and enduring love affair with popular music. The songs that Jeff Lynne revisited on Long Wave are some of the great songs that inspired him to go on to write his modern standards like, “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Showdown,” “Livin’ Thing,” “Do Ya,” “Sweet Talkin’ Woman” and “Telephone Line.”

Long Wavearrived as Lynne was also bringing his fans Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra, an altogether stunning volume featuring new versions of his past ELO smashes.

Electric Light Orchestra is one of the most remarkable success stories in rock history. ELO has sold over 50-million records worldwide, and continues to be a remarkably popular catalog. Between 1972 and 1986, Lynne wrote and produced 26 Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom, and 20 Top 40 hits in the United States, including 20 Top 20 smashes in the UK and 15 Top 20 smashes in the U.S. The ELO catalog continues to have tremendous impact here in the 21st Century, and demonstrated powerfully so when the compilation All Over The World: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra was released in 2005, and became a Top 10 album hit in international markets including England.

Over the years, Lynne produced and collaborated with many of the greatest musical artists of all time, including Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and The Beatles themselves. He has also collaborated with such contemporaries as Tom Petty and Joe Walsh, whose latest album Analog Man Lynne helped produce. Together with Harrison, Orbison, Petty and Bob Dylan, Lynne is a member of the Grammy award-winning Traveling Wilburys—a super group like no other.

The undeniable fact is that with Electric Light Orchestra, Jeff Lynne brought the world a different sound that still sounds modern, relevant and great.

Lynne is involved with such organizations as St. Jude Research Hospital, MUSICARES and H.E.A.R.T. (Helping Ease Abuse Related Trauma).

Hollywood Chamber to honor Dick Gregory with star on Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Dick Gregory will be honored with the 2,542nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, February 2, 2015. The star in the category of Live Theatre/Performance will be dedicated at 1650 Vine Street near Hollywood & Vine. “We are proud to honor Dick Gregory with a star on the Walk of Fame during Black History month. He has given so much to the world with his wisdom through his work in entertainment,” stated Leron Gubler, President of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and emcee of the ceremonies.

The star ceremony will be streamed live exclusively on www.walkoffame.com

The day after the ceremony the celebration will continue with the Dick Gregory & Friends All Star Tribute and Toast on Tuesday, February 3, at 8:00 p.m. at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre, 1615 N. Vine Street in Hollywood.

Richard Claxton Gregory aka Dick Gregory is a comedian, civil rights activist, author, recording artist, actor, philosopher and anti-drug crusader. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Gregory began his career as a comedian while serving in the military in the mid 1950s. He was drafted in 1954 while attending Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. After being discharged in 1956, with a desire to perform comedy professionally, he moved to Chicago.

Gregory attributes the launch of his career to Hugh Hefner, who watched him perform at Herman Roberts Show Bar. Hefner hired Gregory to work at the Chicago Playboy Club as a replacement for comedian Professor Irwin Corey.

By 1962, Gregory had become a nationally-known headline performer, selling out nightclubs, making numerous national television appearances, and recording popular comedy albums. Gregory, whose style was detached, ironic, and satirical, gained the attention of audiences with his political and controversial stand up acts. By being both outspoken and provocative, he became a household name and opened many doors for Black entertainers.

As an influential American comedian, he has used his voice to convey to both white and black audiences his message on civil rights. His social satire helped change the way white Americans perceived black American comedians since he first performed in the public arena.

By October of 1963, Dick Gregory was one of the highest paid entertainers in the world. At that time, he answered the call of Medgar Evers to come to Mississippi  to join the movement. His life was forever changed.  Gregory went to Selma, Alabama and spoke for two hours on a public platform two days before the voter registration drive known as “Freedom Day.” Gregory later became more involved in struggles for civil rights, activism against the Vietnam War, economic reform and anti-drug issues and other matters.

In 2000, Gregory was honored at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., by a sold out house with special tributes by Mrs. Martin Luther King Jr., Stevie Wonder, Isaac Hayes, Cicely Tyson, Mark Lane, Marion Barry and many more.

Gregory is listed as No. 82 on Comedy Central’s list of the 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of all time. He has appeared in numerous films including: “Steppin: The Movie,” “Letter to the President,” “Malcolm X: A Search for Identity,” “In Remembrance of Martin,” “The Hot Chick,” “Children of the Struggle,” and many more. He has written 14 books and has 15 comedy albums that contain his stand up acts and his political commentary.

He has been married to Lillian Gregory since 1959 and on the day of his star ceremony they will also be celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary. They have 10 children.

Celebrities, politicians and statesmen alike from the Kennedy family to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Marlon Brando sought Gregory’s wisdom and counsel; many still do so today.

The Walk of Fame is a tribute to all of those who worked diligently to develop the concept and to maintain this world-class tourist attraction. The Walk of Fame is open to the public. No paid admission or assigned seating at star ceremonies. It is understood that the cost of installing a star on the Walk of Fame upon approval is $30,000 and the sponsor of the nominee accepts the responsibility for arranging for payment to the Hollywood Historic Trust, a 501(c)3 charitable foundation. The funds are used to pay for the creation/installation of the star and ceremony, as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame. The Official Hollywood Walk of Fame App is now available in the iTunes Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/official-hollywood-walk-fame/id725209617?mt=8.
The Android version will premiere later this year.

COUNCILMAN MITCH O’FARRELL TO DELIVER POPULAR STATE OF HOLLYWOOD ADDRESS

Councilman Mitch O’Farrell to Deliver Popular State Of Hollywood Address

HOLLYWOOD, CA-JANUARY 26, 2015-Having completed his first full year representing the 13th Council District, Councilman Mitch O’Farrell will have a lot to report at his second State of Hollywood address on Thursday, January 29th.  “Every year, we encourage people to be sure and make their reservations early,” said Chamber President & CEO Leron Gubler. “We have sold out for this event in the past. We again expect a lot of interest.”

This year’s luncheon will be held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex, 1201 N. Vine Street, with networking beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon following at 12 noon. Admission is $75 for Chamber members. Prime tables with signage can be reserved for $800. Reservations can be made by going to the Chamber website www.hollywoodchamber.net/events or by calling (323)469-8311.

O’Farrell has built a solid reputation of improving the quality of life for constituents in the 13th Council District. He is working to create opportunities for more affordable housing; reforming City policy to help small, neighborhood businesses drive the local economy; and working with his colleagues, the Mayor and the entertainment industry to halt runaway production.

“From a business point of view, the Councilman has definitely worked to protect the interests of small business,” said Gubler. “On the proposed increase in the minimum wage to $13.25, we appreciate that he successfully lobbied for an economic impact study and has insisted on a full debate on the subject before the City Council acts.”

The Councilman’s district is the most diverse in the City, including the neighborhoods of Atwater Village, East Hollywood, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Glassell Park, Historic Filipinotown, Hollywood, Mid-Wilshire/Koreatown, Rampart Village and Silverlake.

He understands the importance of Hollywood, its history, and its brand as a unique one-of-a-kind destination place for the rest of the world. He is working to enhance Hollywood’s reputation as a world-class neighborhood in which to live, do business and visit. He promotes that it is an economic driver for the rest of L.A. as the entertainment capital of the world and a worldwide destination for tourists.

Elected to the Council in 2013, he was appointed to serve as Chair of the Arts, Parks, Health, Aging and Los Angeles River Committee; Vice-Chair of Personnel and Animal Welfare Committee; and as a committee member of Innovation, Technology and General Services Committee; Public Safety Committee; and the Education and Neighborhoods Committee. He is also a member of the City’s ad hoc committee on Film and Television Production Jobs.
