Hollywood Chamber to honor Pharrell Williams with star on the Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that producer, singer, songwriter Pharrell Williams will be honored with the 2,537th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. PST. The star in the category of Recording will be unveiled at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the W Hotel Hollywood. “We are so happy to pay tribute to Pharrell Williams, one of the nicest and most talented artists in show business,” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “His music is known the world over, and we are confident that fans will be ‘happy’ to see his star shine on our Walk of Fame.

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Pharrell Williams is currently seen on the NBC television hit “The Voice” as one of the three expert judges.

Redefining cool for a new generation, Williams is a creative force who uses music, fashion, and design to express his distinctive style. From his beginnings as a teenage prodigy and multi-instrumentalist in Virginia Beach back in the early ’90s, through enough hits to earn him Billboard’s Producer of the Decade in 2010, to his current status as multi-media superstar, Williams has never stopped creating.

Starting his producing career as one half of The Neptunes with Chad Hugo, Williams has helped create such classics as Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” Robin Thicke’s  “Blurred Lines,” Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” Jay-Z’s “I Just Wanna Love U (Give it 2 Me),” Britney Spears’s “I’m A Slave 4 U,” and Justin Timberlake’s “Like I Love You.” With over 100-million copies of his productions sold,  Williams’ music sounds like something no one else has thought of just yet. He’s also created a new way of looking at established stars such as Snoop Dogg, Madonna, and even the Rolling Stones.  Over four albums, Williams and Hugo along with Shae Haley created an unpredictable hybrid as part of the alt-rock/hip-hop group N.E.R.D.

The music industry has honored Pharrell with 7 Grammy Awards including 2004’s and 2014’s “Producer of the Year.” as well as ASCAP’s prestigious Golden Note Award in 2012. He received a 2014 Academy Award Nomination for his original song “Happy” which was featured in the animated film “Despicable Me 2.” The popular song “Happy” remained atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart for ten consecutive weeks, and peaked at No. 1 on iTunes in 103 markets worldwide. The song is the lead single off of his new album “G I R L.” Pharrell’s latest solo album “G I R L” was released on March 3, 2014 to rave reviews.

With his latest venture i am OTHER — a multi-media creative collective that serves as an umbrella for all his endeavors, including Billionaire Boys Club & ICECREAM apparel textile company Bionic Yarn and a dedicated YouTube channel —  Williams’ vision continues to push pop culture forward. Williams’ prolific body of work extends beyond the world of music. His diverse artistic creations range from designing a sculpture with prolific contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, to accessories and jewelry for Louis Vuitton, to T-shirts for Japanese mega-brand Uniqlo, to adidas sportswear, and to the forthcoming perfume collaboration with Comme des Garçons.

Pharrell’s work in the humanitarian field is an extension of his success. In 2008, he founded From One Hand To AnOTHER (FOHTA), a foundation focused on supporting the Pharrell Williams Resource Centers’ learning programs for underserved youth in at risk communities across the nation. This past March, Pharrell partnered with the United Nations Foundation to celebrate the International Day of Happiness inspiring individuals all over the globe to demonstrate their unique “happy.”

Hollywood Chamber to honor Peter Jackson with star on the Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Director/Producer/Screenwriter Peter Jackson will be honored with the 2,538th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. PST. The star in the category of Motion Pictures will be dedicated in front of The Dolby Theatre, at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard.

“We are very happy to honor such an esteemed filmmaker as Peter Jackson with a star on the Walk of Fame,” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “His groundbreaking and award-winning films are part of the legacy of larger-than-life, Hollywood-style entertainment that is beloved the world over.”

Assisting emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be actor Andy Serkis.

Peter Jackson is one of the world’s most successful filmmakers. One of his monumental achievements, “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, which he directed, as well as co-wrote and produced along with fellow Academy Award® winners and frequent collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, collectively earned a total of 30 Academy Award nominations, winning 17 Academy Awards, including Best Picture for the final film. Jackson and Walsh had received in 1995 their first Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for their acclaimed film “Heavenly Creatures.”

Jackson once again plunged into the world of Middle-earth to direct, co-write and produce a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. The first film in “The Hobbit” Trilogy, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” was released in 2012 and earned over $1-billion worldwide and three Academy Award nominations. The second film, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” released in 2013, earned over $950-million and earned three Academy Award nominations.

Jackson’s most recent film is the third and final installment. As with the first two films in The “Hobbit” Trilogy, the final film is a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), with New Line managing production. The film will be released by Warner Bros. worldwide on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, with select international territories releasing on December 10, 2014, in High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D) in select theaters, other 2D and 3D formats, and IMAX®.

Jackson, through his New Zealand-based WingNut Films banner, also was responsible for the globally successful 2005 remake of “King Kong,” which earned over $500-million worldwide and three Academy Awards. More recently, Jackson directed the Academy Award-nominated “The Lovely Bones,” an adaptation of the acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold. He also produced the global sensation ‘District 9,” which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Jackson also produced, with Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, “The Adventures of Tintin,” which was directed by Spielberg. The film won, amongst many other awards and nominations, the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature and the Producers Guild of America Award for Animated Motion Picture Producers of the Year. The movie is the first of three, based on the world-renowned comic book series by Hergé, and Jackson will direct the second film in the trilogy.

Jackson has been active in enriching and promoting the arts, as well as supporting worthy humanitarian causes, including stem cell research and civil rights. In his home town of Wellington, he has helped ensure the preservation of key historical sites and theaters, as well as chairing the 14–18 Aviation Heritage Trust. He has also mentored young filmmakers and employed hundreds of actors, artists, craftspeople and technical crew from the U.S., New Zealand, and all over the world on his films and other projects.

Jackson was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2002. He was later knighted as a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2010.

Matthew McConaughey to be honored with star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey will be honored with the 2,534th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, November 17, at 11:30 a.m. The star in the category of motion pictures will be unveiled in front of Madame Tussauds Hollywood at 6931 Hollywood Boulevard. “Matthew McConaughey is one of Hollywood’s most popular leading men and the community of Hollywood is proud to place his star on our famed historic Hollywood Walk of Fame,” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies.

Texas native Matthew McConaughey began his career with a chance meeting in Austin with casting director and producer Don Phillips who led him to director Richard Linklater, who later launched the actor’s career in the cult classic “Dazed and Confused.” Since then, he has appeared in over 40 feature films that have grossed over $1 billion; and has become a producer, director, and philanthropist – all the while sticking to his Texas roots and “jk livin” philosophy.

2014 has been a game changing year for McConaughey. He has received numerous awards and accolades for the critically acclaimed “Dallas Buyers Club” for which he dropped 47 pounds to play to role of AIDS stricken Ron Woodruff. The film was directed by Jean Marc Valle and also stars Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto. For his riveting portrayal McConaughey received an Academy Award®, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and Gotham Award for Best Actor, the Best Actor Award at the Rome Film Festival as well as the Desert Palm Achievement Actor Award at the Palm Springs Film Festival.

McConaughey currently stars in the recently released Paramount Pictures film “Interstellar,” directed by Christopher Nolan and in theatres now.

In 2012 McConaughey was spotlighted in four diverse career changing performances. He won a Spirit Award for his portrayal of Dallas Rising in Steven Soderbergh’s “Magic Mike,” and was named the year’s Best Supporting Actor by both the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics for his work in “Magic Mike” and Richard Linklater’s “Bernie.” McConaughey also received acclaim for his performance in Lee Daniels’ “The Paperboy,” and was a Spirit Award nominee for playing the title role in William Friedkin’s “Killer Joe.” He followed this up in 2013 with the release of Jeff Nichols’ “Mud,” which received rave reviews and was a sleeper hit in the national box office top 10 for five weeks and Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street,” which opened in December 2013.

His other films include Brad Furman’s “The Lincoln Lawyer,” Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder,” McG’s “We Are Marshall,” Jill and Karen Sprecher’s “Thirteen Conversations About One Thing,” Bill Paxton’s “Frailty,” Jonathan Mostow’s “U-571,” Ron Howard’s “EDtv,” Richard Linklater’s “The Newton Boys,” Steven Spielberg’s “Amistad,” Robert Zemeckis’ “Contact,” Joel Schumacher’s “A Time to Kill,” and John Sayles’ “Lone Star.”

He made the move to TV starring alongside Woody Harrelson in the HBO dramatic series “True Detective.” The show has been met by rave reviews from critics and fans alike and earned him a Critics Choice and TCA Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series as well as an Emmy Nomination.

In 2008, McConaughey started The just keep livin Foundation (www.jklivinfoundation.org), which is dedicated to helping boys and girls transform into men and women through programs that teach the importance of decision-making, health, education, and active living. The Foundation has partnered with Communities in Schools (CIS) – the nation’s largest, non-profit, dropout-prevention organization –in West Los Angeles to implement fitness and wellness programs in two large urban high schools. Through an afterschool program, they are able to give kids a healthy start in life and the promise of a healthy future.

Dabney Coleman to be honored with star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that actor Dabney Coleman will be honored with the 2,533rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. PST. The star in the category of Television will be unveiled at 6141 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the newly developed Eastown.

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be directors Dennis Klein and Mark Rydell. “The charismatic Dabney Coleman has a well-deserved reputation as one of Hollywood’s finest actors. He constantly delivers characters with diverse and poignant roles,” stated Leron Gubler. “We are pleased to welcome him to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

Dabney Coleman was born in Austin, Texas in 1932 and was raised in Corpus Christi. He attended both the Virginia Military Institute and the University of Texas School of Law before deciding on a career in acting. He also served in the military, with the US Army, Special Service Division.

Film, stage, and television actor Dabney Coleman has most recently been seen as ‘Commodore Kaestner’ in the Martin Scorsese directed and produced series “Boardwalk Empire” for HBO, for which he won two SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. He was also recently seen in “Char·ac·ter” a documentary on six illuminating filmmakers and friends.

Coleman is a prolific character actor best known for playing endearing yet outspoken grumps as well as perversely likeable cads and schemers. Something in the cadence of Coleman’s Texan drawl simultaneously suggests folksiness and moral laxity. His handsome presence donned eyes that tend to glint with mean inspiration and a mustache that often frames a leer.

Coleman’s TV career began with a recurring role of the boyfriend in “That Girl.” He proceeded to play a succession of doctors on the NBC soap opera “Bright Promise” 1969-72, cops on the CBS detective series “Cannon” 1971-76, and politicians in the ABC TV-movie “The President’s Plane Is Missing” 1973. His popular persona solidified in Norman Lear’s innovative soap spoof, “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.” Coleman was ‘Merle Jeeter’, the shady father of a child preacher, who eventually became mayor of the fictional Fernwood and reprised the role on the spin-off, “Forever Fernwood.”

Coleman’s despicable, egotistical, insecure ‘Bill Bittinger’ on “Buffalo Bill” earned him a Golden Globe nomination and two Emmy Award nominations. As an unsavory sportswriter in “The ‘Slap’ Maxwell Story,” Coleman received an Emmy Award nomination and won a Golden Globe Award. He then starred in and was an executive consultant of “Drexell’s Class.” In 1994, Coleman starred in “Madman of the People” as an opinionated magazine columnist who frequently clashes with his publisher-daughter.

Much of Coleman’s earlier television work was in comedy yet his roles were equally rich in drama. He was nominated for a Golden Globeand won an Emmy for his dramatic performance in the television movie “Sworn to Silence” opposite Liam Neeson and Peter Coyote. He received an Emmy nomination for the miniseries “Baby M,” one of the first shows to deal with surrogate mothers, and got another Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for a role in “Columbo.” He was nominated for a CableAce Award for his performance in the HBO television special “Murrow.” In 2001, he began a three-season run on “The Guardian” alongside Simon Baker. Most recently he was seen in an episode of “Law & Order: SVU” as a con struggling with Alzheimer’s disease.

Coleman has been in countless comedy and dramatic series as well as many Movies-of-the-Week including “The Texan,”  “Kiss My Act,” “My Date with the President’s Daughter,” “Kidnapped: In the Line of Duty,” “Must Be Santa,” “Guilty of Innocence: The Lenell Geter Story,” and TNT’s “Never Forget.” He recently played Jenna Elfman’s irascible father in “Courting Alex,” and in TNT’s “Heartland” where he re-teamed with “The Guardian” creator David Hollander.

Coleman’s most memorable film roles include the villainous boss in “9 to 5.” the pompous director in “Tootsie,” and the sympathetic role of Jane Fonda’s boyfriend in “On Golden Pond.” Other film credits include “Where the Heart Is,” “War Games,” “Cloak and Dagger,” “Dragnet,” “Meet the Applegates,” “Amos and Andrew,” “The Beverly Hillbillies,” “You’ve Got Mail,” “Inspector Gadget,” “Stuart Little,” “Moonlight Mile,” and “Domino.”

Coleman is involved in several such charities as: The Christian Children’s Fund, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Band Trampled by Turtles will be performing an acoustic version of Denver’s song “Annie’s Song. The band is in town for their performance that evening at the Fonda Theatre the evening of the star ceremony.

In celebration of John Denver’s recording career, a new Box set titled All of My Memories: The John Denver Collection will be released on November 4, through RCA/Legacy Recordings, a Division of Sony Music Entertainment. The deluxe 90-song, 4 CD set box set is a first comprehensive multi-label overview to span 1964 to 1997, including six previously unreleased tracks, demos, promo rarities, live performances, limited edition and private pressings, and more. Special guest performers include the Mitchell Trio, Olivia Newton-John, Sylvie Vartan, Placido Domingo, Emmylou Harris, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Muppets and others.

One of the world’s best-known and most-loved performers, Denver earned international acclaim as a songwriter, performer, actor, environmentalist and humanitarian. Denver’s career spanned four decades and his music has outlasted countless musical trends and garnered numerous awards and honors.

Denver’s artistic journey began at age eleven when he was given his grandmother’s guitar. He eventually took guitar lessons and joined a boys’ choir, which led him at age twenty to pursue his dream of a career in music. In 1963 he struck out on his own, moving to Los Angeles to be in the heart of the burgeoning music scene. It was during this time that Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. was urged by friends to change his name if a recording career were to be in his future. He took his stage name from the beautiful capital city of his favorite state, Colorado. Later in life, Denver and his family settled in Aspen, Colorado and his love for the Rocky Mountains inspired many of his songs.

Denver experienced his first major break in the music industry when he was chosen from 250 other hopefuls as lead singer for the popular Mitchell Trio. He gained recognition when his song “Leaving On A Jet Plane” was recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary, becoming their first and only number one hit. When the Mitchell Trio disbanded, Denver was climbing up the pop charts as a solo act with such songs as “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Rocky Mountain High,” “Sunshine On My Shoulders,” “Annie’s Song,” “Back Home Again,” “Thank God I’m A Country Boy,” and “Calypso,” solidifying his position as one of the top stars of the 1970s.

By his third album in 1970, Denver’s social and political leanings were defined more clearly. Denver was one of the first artists to share an environmental message through his musicwith such songs as “Rocky Mountain High” and “Whose Garden Was This.”

Denver was also the first artist from the West to do a multi-city tour of mainland China, in October 1992. He was somewhat astonished to discover how popular and well-known his songs were in China. “‘Country Roads,’” he was told, “is the most famous song written in the West.”

Among Denver’s many gifts, he was a talented photographer. “Sweet, Sweet Life: The Photographic Works of John Denver” represents a chance for the world to experience life as John Denver lived it. Throughout his lifetime, Denver captured thousands of images as he traveled across the globe, spreading his message of peace, love, and conservation. Through his mastery of composition, lighting, and the decisive moment, Denver became an accomplished photographer. Substrate Gallery in Hollywood is proud to present over 40 never-before-seen photographs of distinction from the celebrated musician from October 24th to November 23rd. The Gallery will be showing and selling limited editions of Denver’s personal photography, as curated by representatives of The John Denver Estate and Ramses Granados from the Substrate Fine Art Gallery. The public is invited to join in on taking a rare and unique look into the artist’s life, mind and heart!

Denver contributed his talents to the benefit of many charitable and environmental causes and received numerous civic and humanitarian awards over the years. Fans responded to his heartfelt urgings about ecology, peace, and compassion that were consistently delivered in a gentle manner on his records and at live performances.

The world was left in shock when it was announced that John Denver died tragically in a plane crash on October 12, 1997. On March 12, 2007, Colorado’s Senate passed a resolution to make Denver’s trademark 1972 hit “Rocky Mountain High” one of the state’s two official state songs, and on March 7, 2014, West Virginia’s Senate passed a resolution to make “Take Me Home, Country Roads” one of their state’s two official state songs.

Today, millions of fans old and new enjoy the work of this extraordinary performer. Thirty albums and four decades after he began, John Denver’s music is as relevant as ever. His humanitarian work continues to strengthen our global village, and his dynamic celebration of life, spirit and nature is a powerful inspiration to us all.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that they will be honoring the multi-platinum selling, award-winning performers New Kids on The Block with the 2,530th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. The star will be located at 7072 Hollywood Boulevard. “Fans have been asking for quite a while now when the New Kids on The Block were going to get their star. We want to thank them for “Hangin’ Tough” for waiting patiently to hear the announcement of their favorite boy band star ceremony,” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “Since then, fans from all over the United States and the world have been booking flights to get to Hollywood for this special day!” Helping Emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO, Leron Gubler to unveil the star in the category of Recording will be Arsenio Hall.

New Kids on The Block was formed in 1984 in Boston, Massachusetts. Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood signed with Columbia Records and their first album entitled “New Kids on The Block” was released. Their popularity grew with the releases “Hanging Tough” and “Please Don’t Go Girl.” The following year the New Kids were touring the country and their songs were reaching the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Charts. In 1990, the group won two American Music Awards and earned a Grammy nomination. By 1994, the group disbanded and went their own ways. By that time, they had sold 80 million albums, shattered concert box office records playing an estimated 200 concerts a year worldwide and grossed more than one billion dollars. They achieved five platinum albums, ten top 10 singles, and five No. 1 singles.

After 15 years out of the spotlight, the 21st century saw the boys from Boston stage one of the biggest and most anticipated reunions of all time. In 2008, they officially revealed their return on The Today Show. An enormous crowd gathered at Rockefeller Center for their first comeback performance, and everything snowballed once again from that magical moment.

Their long-awaited fifth album, “The Block,” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200. Galvanized with new tunes including hot collaborations with Lady Gaga and Ne-Yo and an undeniably impressive modern stage show, “the guys now,” as Wahlberg puts it, reclaimed their spot at the top of modern pop. It certainly would’ve been easy for the five-some to simply careen along on past glories.

New Kids on the Block have sold more than 80 million albums worldwide and dominated airwaves with a bevy of hits such as “You Got It (The Right Stuff)”, “Cover Girl,” “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time),” “Hangin’ Tough.” “I’ll Be Loving You.” “Step By Step,” and “Tonight.”

Not to mention, in the early ’90s, the band had smashed box office records performing 200 concerts per year at stadiums across the globe and were named “highest paid entertainers of 1990” by Forbes Magazine. However, they weren’t content to simply rest on their laurels in the '00s. Instead, they upped the ante immensely with a series of career firsts over two decades into their illustrious legacy.

Since reuniting, the band has gone on to tour to sold out arenas worldwide.  One of those sold out tours even included a once in a lifetime stop at Fenway Park.  The Boston pop icons brought their brainchild NKOTBSB to the famed stadium as part of the historic NKOTBSB Tour. Selling out 140 arena shows on their reunion jaunt and numerous co-headline dates, the Fenway Park gig remains a high watermark for the group.

In April 2013, New Kids released their sixth studio album 10, which debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. Following the release, they co-headlined The Package Tour along with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men. The wildly successful tour spanned nearly 50 shows across North America before concluding in August 2013. Most recently, NKOTB completed the New Kids On The Block After Dark, the exclusive four day engagement at The AXIS in Las Vegas from July 10-13. The four incredible shows were part of the ultimate Vegas weekend that included concerts, pool parties and after parties – and were the exclusive North American tour dates in 2014.

In the midst of it all, New Kids On The Block always find time to continually give back. In 2009, the guys and their fans started supporting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Since then, they’ve collectively raised in excess of $200,000 towards finding a cure for breast cancer. Fans continue to host fundraisers and jumpstart events like “Race for the Cure” and “3-Day for the Cure” teams furthering the cause. After losing his mother to the disease, Wood created “Remember Betty” to celebrate her memory. Their charitable pursuits extend even farther. Supporting Toys For Tots in 2010, they put on an intimate show at the Boston House of Blues, and the hometown gig sold out in a matter of minutes and raised over $60,000 for the charity.

There are even more firsts on the horizon for New Kids On The Block though, and they've still got "the right stuff" after all these years.
