COUNCILMAN MITCH O’FARRELL TO DELIVER POPULAR STATE OF HOLLYWOOD ADDRESS

Councilman Mitch O’Farrell to Deliver Popular State Of Hollywood Address

HOLLYWOOD, CA-JANUARY 26, 2015-Having completed his first full year representing the 13th Council District, Councilman Mitch O’Farrell will have a lot to report at his second State of Hollywood address on Thursday, January 29th.  “Every year, we encourage people to be sure and make their reservations early,” said Chamber President & CEO Leron Gubler. “We have sold out for this event in the past. We again expect a lot of interest.”

This year’s luncheon will be held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex, 1201 N. Vine Street, with networking beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon following at 12 noon. Admission is $75 for Chamber members. Prime tables with signage can be reserved for $800. Reservations can be made by going to the Chamber website www.hollywoodchamber.net/events or by calling (323)469-8311.

O’Farrell has built a solid reputation of improving the quality of life for constituents in the 13th Council District. He is working to create opportunities for more affordable housing; reforming City policy to help small, neighborhood businesses drive the local economy; and working with his colleagues, the Mayor and the entertainment industry to halt runaway production.

“From a business point of view, the Councilman has definitely worked to protect the interests of small business,” said Gubler. “On the proposed increase in the minimum wage to $13.25, we appreciate that he successfully lobbied for an economic impact study and has insisted on a full debate on the subject before the City Council acts.”

The Councilman’s district is the most diverse in the City, including the neighborhoods of Atwater Village, East Hollywood, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Glassell Park, Historic Filipinotown, Hollywood, Mid-Wilshire/Koreatown, Rampart Village and Silverlake.

He understands the importance of Hollywood, its history, and its brand as a unique one-of-a-kind destination place for the rest of the world. He is working to enhance Hollywood’s reputation as a world-class neighborhood in which to live, do business and visit. He promotes that it is an economic driver for the rest of L.A. as the entertainment capital of the world and a worldwide destination for tourists.

Elected to the Council in 2013, he was appointed to serve as Chair of the Arts, Parks, Health, Aging and Los Angeles River Committee; Vice-Chair of Personnel and Animal Welfare Committee; and as a committee member of Innovation, Technology and General Services Committee; Public Safety Committee; and the Education and Neighborhoods Committee. He is also a member of the City’s ad hoc committee on Film and Television Production Jobs.

Hollywood Chamber to honor Ken Ehrlich with star on Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that television producer Ken Ehrlich will be honored with the 2,541st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. PST. The star in the category of Television will be dedicated in front of the historic Capitol Records Building at 1750 N. Vine Street.

“It is time we honor the man who successfully elevated and transformed the artists and their music we love into memorable moments on live Television,” said Leron Gubler, President of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “Ken Ehrlich’s magical productions have touched millions of people watching these shows around the world and we are pleased to welcome him to our family of stars on Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

The star ceremony will be streamed live on www.walkoffame.com.

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be John Legend, Stevie Wonder and LL Cool J.

While the Grammy Awards are what Ken Ehrlich is best known for, his 47-year history as a television producer is filled with living examples of how Ehrlich’s creative spark and judgment has left viewers with memorable moments on the small screen, whether they be a studio full of blues legends paying tribute to Muddy Waters (“Soundstage” 1974), 350,000 fans in Times Square celebrating the NFL kickoff season with Bon Jovi, Enrique Iglesias and Alicia Keys (NFL KICKOFF SHOW, 2003), or Mick Jagger and Buddy Guy closing the show in the East Room of the White House with special guest President Barack Obama singing “Sweet Home Chicago” (In Performance at the White House; Red, White and Blues, 2012). All of these moments and so many more have come to be known as “Ken Ehrlich moments,” and they’re the most admired, and most imitated segments of live event television.

Among Ehrlich’s many achievements and innovations in the world of music television are the creation of the “MTV Movie Awards” and the “VH1 Divas” shows, which changed the face of music and led to the rise of female artists in popular music. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Alicia Keys, Celine Dion and many more benefitted from appearances on Divas shows. For the past several years, Ken and his company AEG Ehrlich Ventures LLC, have produced a series of shows from the East Room of the White House and have brought artists from Bob Dylan, Justin Timberlake, Aretha Franklin to Ariana Grande, BB King and others in performance in front of the First Family. In 2014, Ehrlich achieved a remarkable hat-trick, producing the 56th Grammy Awards show and then moving next door to the LA Convention Center to bring Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and a room full of superstars together to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. The latter show was so successful that CBS network repeated it an unprecedented second time within the week the following Wednesday night!

Ehrlich believes that artistic excellence in music is a moveable feast, and demonstrates his commitment to that premise by, as he says, ‘connecting the dots.’  His creation of the concept of Grammy moments’ musical performances which unite artists from different generations, genres or disciplines that ultimately go to demonstrate the universal nature of music and seeks to unite generations. Whether it be Beyonce and Tina Turner, Eminem and Elton John, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl and Joe Walsh, Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand, Bruno Mars, Sting, Rihanna and the sons of Bob Marley, Ehrlich brings people together and creates television experiences that are unique and unifying. So much so that in addition to numerous awards and nominations, he has been honored by the Producers Guild of America with its Visionary Award, and Billboard Magazine has named him one of the “Power 100” in the music industry. But beyond all the star-studded spectacles that Ehrlich has created and produced over the years, he is most proud of shows he has done that have served to make a difference. Among those shows are an HBO special he did in 1988 that paid tribute to the contribution of our Vietnam vets; an epic celebration of Nelson Mandela upon his release from prison; the reopening of the New Orleans Superdome one year after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans (U2 and Green Day performed), and then a similarly-themed six hour special aired only three weeks after Katrina from Madison Square Garden which raised $10M for the residents of that city; and a tribute to the people of New York City and John Lennon, presented two weeks after 9/11. He also produced the US side of the Live 8 event in 2005.

Ehrlich has always been available when called upon to contribute his creativity as well as his staff in support of charitable causes. He produced several all-star non-televised events for Katie Couric’s Colon cancer organization, produced several more for Los Angeles’ Entertainment Industry Foundation, and in addition to being a member of the Board of Directors of the Grammy Museum, has produced and raised significant funds for the Museum through benefits, evenings at the Museum, etc. He has produced several City of Hope Award dinners, and a series of fundraising concerts in support of the fight against breast cancer (for Lifetime Television). In the last two presidential campaigns, he produced some extremely high profile and influential benefits for President Barack Obama.  In 2011, Ken directed Celine Dion’s Las Vegas show, which is one of Las Vegas’ most successful and long running star driven offerings.

He is a longstanding member of both the Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America and he has maintained a strong supporting stance of the importance of keeping entertainment industry jobs here in Hollywood.

The star in the category of Motion Pictures will be dedicated in front of The Dolby Theatre at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard. “We are very happy to add acclaimed Dolby sound system engineer and inventor Ray Dolby to the Walk of Fame,” stated Leron Gubler, President/CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “Everyone in the world has experienced the most amazing audio emanating from film screens around the world. Born in Portland, Oregon, Ray Dolby is recognized around the world for developing groundbreaking audio technologies that revolutionized the recording industry and enabled cinema sound to deliver the same emotional intensity as images. He founded Dolby Laboratories in 1965 and created an environment where scientists and engineers advance the science of sight and sound to produce spectacular experiences. Tens of thousands of films and billions of products and devices with Dolby technologies have made their way to theatres, homes, and consumers’ hands around the world. The industry has awarded Dolby Laboratories with 10 Academy Awards® and 14 Emmy® Awards for its groundbreaking achievements throughout the years. Today, the company’s audio and imaging technologies are an essential part of the creative process for recording artists and filmmakers, who continue to use Dolby® tools to bring their visions to life.

Among Dr. Dolby’s awards and honors are:

·         Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Edison Medal (2010)

As a former Marshall Scholar, Dr. Dolby was also awarded the George C. Marshall Award in 2003. He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in the United States and the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom in 2004.

In 2012, the iconic Hollywood landmark known to the world as the home of the Academy Awards was renamed the Dolby Theatre® and the site of the post-Oscars gala was renamed the Ray Dolby Ballroom in honor of Dr. Dolby.

Together, Dr. Dolby and his wife, Dagmar, were active in philanthropy and supported numerous causes and organizations. MEDIA RELEASE

HOLLYWOOD CHAMBER PAC ENDORSES WALLY KNOX in LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 4 PRIMARY RACE

HOLLYWOOD, CA – January 20, 2015 – The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (PAC) announced its support today of City Council District 4 (CD-4) candidate Wally Knox.

"I am honored to have the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce PAC endorsement!” said Knox. “The Chamber knows my track record, having worked directly with them throughout my years in the Assembly. Now I am running for City Council in a district that is almost entirely within my former Assembly boundaries. I know the district well, and am excited to get back to work for the residents of the 4th District. I look forward to working with the Chamber to end the war between neighborhoods and developers by giving everyone a reliable legal framework that cannot be evaded at the whim of a Councilmember, myself included. I am also anxious to enhance the city’s halting progress in restoring services after years and years of decline. It is imperative that officials show the public that they can do the basics and do them well.”

Laurie Goldman, Chair of the Hollywood Chamber PAC stated, “With such a large field of talented candidates this was not an easy decision to make for our PAC Board. The Board established an extensive endorsement process including a debate, a candidate questionnaire and in-person interviews. Each candidate offered a unique perspective on what they could bring to CD 4 but ultimately it was Wally Knox who offered the most compelling vision for the future of the District. Wally has a proven record in the Hollywood business community. We have seen first-hand his passion and commitment for Hollywood throughout his tenure in the California State Assembly and are proud to provide him with our full support in his efforts to represent CD-4 on the City Council.”

“I cannot wait to get back to work in this District as your Councilmember,” stated Knox. “I know what it will take to make Hollywood the world class community it deserves to be and as Councilmember, residents of CD 4 can count on my Administration to lead the way in making CD 4 thrive and prosper while preserving the character of our neighborhoods. The Chamber and the business community in the 4th District support me because they know I am the candidate who will actually reform the way this City deals with our small business community. I intend to reignite our local economy, create and sustain local jobs, and maintain the beauty and character of our residential neighborhoods. These are not incompatible goals so long as everyone knows they can rely on an old-fashioned concept: the rule of laws that embody carefully worked out community plans, not the whims of individual Councilmembers."

The Hollywood Chamber PAC recognizes the importance of this election in determining the future for our Hollywood business community and for businesses throughout Los Angeles. The PAC encourages all Angelenos to get out and vote on March 3rd. For further information on Hollywood Chamber PAC endorsements, please visit http://www.hollywoodchamber.net/pac

Hollywood Chamber to honor Pharrell Williams with star on the Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that producer, singer, songwriter Pharrell Williams will be honored with the 2,537th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. PST. The star in the category of Recording will be unveiled at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the W Hotel Hollywood. “We are so happy to pay tribute to Pharrell Williams, one of the nicest and most talented artists in show business,” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “His music is known the world over, and we are confident that fans will be ‘happy’ to see his star shine on our Walk of Fame.

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Pharrell Williams is currently seen on the NBC television hit “The Voice” as one of the three expert judges.

Redefining cool for a new generation, Williams is a creative force who uses music, fashion, and design to express his distinctive style. From his beginnings as a teenage prodigy and multi-instrumentalist in Virginia Beach back in the early ’90s, through enough hits to earn him Billboard’s Producer of the Decade in 2010, to his current status as multi-media superstar, Williams has never stopped creating.

Starting his producing career as one half of The Neptunes with Chad Hugo, Williams has helped create such classics as Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” Robin Thicke’s  “Blurred Lines,” Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” Jay-Z’s “I Just Wanna Love U (Give it 2 Me),” Britney Spears’s “I’m A Slave 4 U,” and Justin Timberlake’s “Like I Love You.” With over 100-million copies of his productions sold,  Williams’ music sounds like something no one else has thought of just yet. He’s also created a new way of looking at established stars such as Snoop Dogg, Madonna, and even the Rolling Stones.  Over four albums, Williams and Hugo along with Shae Haley created an unpredictable hybrid as part of the alt-rock/hip-hop group N.E.R.D.

The music industry has honored Pharrell with 7 Grammy Awards including 2004’s and 2014’s “Producer of the Year.” as well as ASCAP’s prestigious Golden Note Award in 2012. He received a 2014 Academy Award Nomination for his original song “Happy” which was featured in the animated film “Despicable Me 2.” The popular song “Happy” remained atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart for ten consecutive weeks, and peaked at No. 1 on iTunes in 103 markets worldwide. The song is the lead single off of his new album “G I R L.” Pharrell’s latest solo album “G I R L” was released on March 3, 2014 to rave reviews.

With his latest venture i am OTHER — a multi-media creative collective that serves as an umbrella for all his endeavors, including Billionaire Boys Club & ICECREAM apparel textile company Bionic Yarn and a dedicated YouTube channel —  Williams’ vision continues to push pop culture forward. Williams’ prolific body of work extends beyond the world of music. His diverse artistic creations range from designing a sculpture with prolific contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, to accessories and jewelry for Louis Vuitton, to T-shirts for Japanese mega-brand Uniqlo, to adidas sportswear, and to the forthcoming perfume collaboration with Comme des Garçons.

Pharrell’s work in the humanitarian field is an extension of his success. In 2008, he founded From One Hand To AnOTHER (FOHTA), a foundation focused on supporting the Pharrell Williams Resource Centers’ learning programs for underserved youth in at risk communities across the nation. This past March, Pharrell partnered with the United Nations Foundation to celebrate the International Day of Happiness inspiring individuals all over the globe to demonstrate their unique “happy.”

Hollywood Chamber to honor Peter Jackson with star on the Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Director/Producer/Screenwriter Peter Jackson will be honored with the 2,538th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. PST. The star in the category of Motion Pictures will be dedicated in front of The Dolby Theatre, at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard.

“We are very happy to honor such an esteemed filmmaker as Peter Jackson with a star on the Walk of Fame,” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “His groundbreaking and award-winning films are part of the legacy of larger-than-life, Hollywood-style entertainment that is beloved the world over.”

Assisting emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be actor Andy Serkis.

Peter Jackson is one of the world’s most successful filmmakers. One of his monumental achievements, “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, which he directed, as well as co-wrote and produced along with fellow Academy Award® winners and frequent collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, collectively earned a total of 30 Academy Award nominations, winning 17 Academy Awards, including Best Picture for the final film. Jackson and Walsh had received in 1995 their first Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for their acclaimed film “Heavenly Creatures.”

Jackson once again plunged into the world of Middle-earth to direct, co-write and produce a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. The first film in “The Hobbit” Trilogy, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” was released in 2012 and earned over $1-billion worldwide and three Academy Award nominations. The second film, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” released in 2013, earned over $950-million and earned three Academy Award nominations.

Jackson’s most recent film is the third and final installment. As with the first two films in The “Hobbit” Trilogy, the final film is a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), with New Line managing production. The film will be released by Warner Bros. worldwide on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, with select international territories releasing on December 10, 2014, in High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D) in select theaters, other 2D and 3D formats, and IMAX®.

Jackson, through his New Zealand-based WingNut Films banner, also was responsible for the globally successful 2005 remake of “King Kong,” which earned over $500-million worldwide and three Academy Awards. More recently, Jackson directed the Academy Award-nominated “The Lovely Bones,” an adaptation of the acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold. He also produced the global sensation ‘District 9,” which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Jackson also produced, with Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, “The Adventures of Tintin,” which was directed by Spielberg. The film won, amongst many other awards and nominations, the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature and the Producers Guild of America Award for Animated Motion Picture Producers of the Year. The movie is the first of three, based on the world-renowned comic book series by Hergé, and Jackson will direct the second film in the trilogy.

Jackson has been active in enriching and promoting the arts, as well as supporting worthy humanitarian causes, including stem cell research and civil rights. In his home town of Wellington, he has helped ensure the preservation of key historical sites and theaters, as well as chairing the 14–18 Aviation Heritage Trust. He has also mentored young filmmakers and employed hundreds of actors, artists, craftspeople and technical crew from the U.S., New Zealand, and all over the world on his films and other projects.

Jackson was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2002. He was later knighted as a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2010.
