The 75th
Diamond Hollywood Christmas Parade drew hundreds of
thousands of people to central Hollywood.
Broadcast live on KTLA, the parade featured George
Lopez as grand marshal and Regis Philbin as a
special 75th anniversary honorary grand marshal.
The
heart and soul of the parade festivities, Lopez
joined a grand tradition of entertainers such as
Jimmy Stewart, Sammy Davis Jr., Bob Hope, Ron Howard
and Arnold Schwarzenegger who have served as Grand
Marshal of the Parade over the past 75 years.
”The
parade is a celebration of Hollywood and the
community. George Lopez is not only an
incredibly gifted entertainer but is deeply
committed to his work with charitable organizations
to better the communities of his native Los Angeles.
He was a natural choice for Grand Marshal and we are
thrilled to welcome him,” said Leron Gubler,
President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of
Commerce.
Broadcasting
icon Regis Philbin was named
Diamond Jubilee Honorary Grand Marshal in a
special celebration of the Hollywood Christmas
Parade’s landmark 75th anniversary, the first
time such an honorary position has been added to the
parade lineup.
“We
are very excited that Regis Philbin celebrated his 75th year along with the
Parade,” Gubler adds. “Just as Philbin has remained
a pop culture touchstone throughout his career, the
Parade has been Hollywood’s way of kicking off the
holiday season for fans of every generation.”
Topping the
list, teen pop artist Brooke Hogan and heartthrob
Michael Bolton performed during the parade.
”We
are thrilled to welcome Brooke Hogan and Michael
Bolton to our lineup, said Leron Gubler, President &
CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “Brooke
brings a fresh new face to the holiday festivities
while Michael delivers his legendary talent, making
for an incredibly exciting music performance
throughout the Parade.”
“Hollywood is the hottest spot in Los Angeles, its
thriving nightlife drawing young talent and
celebrities. The Parade, an integral part of the
fabric of the community, is enjoying this renewed
enthusiasm and welcomes today’s best talent who want
to be part of the legendary Hollywood Christmas
Parade,” added Gubler. “Young Hollywood is
rekindling the excitement and glamour of the town in
its heyday."
The
Hollywood Christmas Parade was the inspiration for
Gene Autry’s timeless classic “Here Comes Santa
Claus (…right down Santa Claus Lane).” On November
26, 2006, the parade route began in front of
the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theater and continued
along a 2.3-mile route that included Hollywood
Boulevard, Vine Street, and Sunset Boulevard ending
in front of Hollywood High School. The Parade
attracted an estimated 500,000 people and features a
cavalcade of celebrities from movies, music and
television, exotic cars, star studded floats,
marching bands, and musical performances. It
was televised live on KTLA in Los Angeles and the WGN
Superstation. The Parade will air on additional
stations across the country throughout the month of
December.
Executive Producer
Todd Lindgren thanked everyone who helped to make
the parade a success. Positive accolades have been
rolling in to the chamber office, calling it one of
the best parades that Hollywood Chamber has assembled.
